I imagine (this is OPINION) that the money isn't going to otherwise barefoot and pregnant (or impregnating) lower dwellers. I imagine it's spent on those deemed "deserving" of such things.

Just like tax deductible contributions to some things is actually being spent on the association itself of which the contributor is a member. A club of sorts.

Yeah, wealth redistribution usually refers to a government forcibly taking your money and spreading it around to people and places you may or may not support... They didn't ask you. This is done to further the cause of The One Right; which was also crafted without your consultation.

Giving one's own money to a charity of one's own choosing is just being a stand up kinda citizen; it is more of a --- WAIT A MINUTE! This is my 300th post! I'll be right back, I hafta go blow up the balloons. *I can't wait to get my decoder ring in the mail!*

How often do you go to Walmart? Usually once a week.

Why do you shop there? They have pretty much everything I need, and there is no other real competition (K-Mart, etc..).

Do you find the minor price savings to be worth the added hassles of the Walmart shopping experience? Not much choice, it's the only game in town.

No one is suing anyone else, you do know that Sue is the middle name of that guy right? My take is this Tommie guy or girl is asking people do donate more because there is still a need for more money for the program. I don't see it being different than asking for additional donors.

I have no reason to believe philanthropy is the wrong thing to do in a society, no matter how liberal or conservative you are.

Well, it can make you feel that way ..and makes good press.

Let's suppose you give a sizable % of your income to your church ..that's charitable, isn't it? Now suppose they open a summer camp ..that all the member's kids go to ..an attached school too. Have a few foreign all expense paid missions to "see how good we have it" ..and build a really BIG building??

Makes you feel great that you give selflessly out of choice.

Just giving you the other side of upstanding citizenry.

If you feel bad you can always stop giving. I don't give a dime to my church but donate to the more worthy charity of my choice. As the only difference is whether it is tax deductible or not, and that's IRS' business, not mine.

The point I was making is that you can feel very charitable while essentially giving to yourself in association. It can be like donating to the Moose Lodge in comparative selflessness if you, and your fellow membership, is/are doing all the receiving of the services that it pays for.

There is actually a much more succinct way to articulate this concept, Gary: It's called a "win/ win". My "uc50ic4more" foundation, for example - which has a limited number of patrons, funds things like archery equipment, home brewing supplies and computer peripherals for a commensurately limited number of benefactors. Am I supposed to be feeling less warm and fuzzy about my philanthropy?

Not at all. If that's your definition of philanthropy ..enjoy your feelings of altruism. You would not be alone in this type of selflessness.

Every day low prices, very good selection of merchandise, friendly employees, quick check-out lines, excellent customer service, clean stores that are kept spotless, Tire & Lube center and a Mc Donalds inside the store.....

what else could BITOG members ask for in such a great company like Walmart ?

Every day low prices
- slightly in some, but never a loss leader

very good selection of merchandise
- average to not ture, WM isn't good enough in selection compare to more specialized box store.

friendly employees
- not here

quick check-out lines
- not here

excellent customer service
- not here

clean stores that are kept spotless
- some yes, some no

Tire & Lube center
- good tire mounting price, but WM doesn't patch tire.

a Mc Donalds inside the store
- that cost 20% more than the one outside in the same plaza.

what else could BITOG members ask for in such a great company like Walmart ?
- better price

Hmmmmmmm... I am very, very, very suspicious about RIM actually *making* anything *in* Canada. Assembled, maybe, but I'll bet none of it is manufactured in Canada. Hope I'm wrong.

RIM has their PCBs made in Sweden, while the logic is made by Freescale which was a Motorola spinoff for their GSM BlackBerry lineup, and Qualcomm for CDMA(Sprint/Verizon/Bell/Telus/Alltel) models - by way of TSMC in Taiwan or Chartered in Singapore. The memory/power ICs/supporting ICs are made all over the world, and the LCDs are made by Sharp, LG-Philips or Samsung SDI.

Better IKEA than Levitz junk, that's for sure. I have a $15 IKEA table supporting a 130lb HP Color LaserJet 4500DN here.

As much as I don't like going there, I do buy oil there occasionally. They have the best prices around.

America's largest employer. lol

My opinions are exactly the opposite. Well, it all depends on how much you spend. My purchases from Levitz were about $3k total and $200 in IKEA.

Levitz had just about everything (from when I went there a few years ago). Plenty of common stuff ..but to top their top offerings would require a 6 digit income.
