Walmart Synthetic question

I always purchase the oil for my mechanic when changing the oil in our DI 3.6 CTS. It calls for Mobil 1 and the auto parts store charges $9 a quart. Anyway on the recent oil change I delivered the 5 qt bottle of Mobil 1 5w30 and a quart of Walmarts synthetic of the same wt. which I had sitting around for about a year and thought it would be no problem to use it with the Mobil 1.
When I picked up the car my mechanic returned the Walmart oil saying he would not use it and showed me what looked like snot particles floating in the unopened bottle. I had always assumed that Walmart synthetic was fine to use but now am not so sure. Was this an anomaly or something to do with sitting for a year?

I vote for the "sit time." Those particles separated in the past year. Give it a good shake next oil change and dump it in. I wouldn't think twice. If you don't feel comfortable with it, use it in a small engine.

If I may ask, did it sit in an un-controlled climate (i.e. Outdoor garage, barn, etc.)?

The walmart M1 is the same as any other M1. I can't comment on the snot particle. I year storage should be no big deal. Mail me the M1, I'll shake it and use it no problem.

It's the Wal Mart brand that had floaters in it not the M1.

I've always kept my oil and filters in the cabinets in my garage. During the summer, it gets pretty warm in there. During the winter, it gets pretty cold. Is that really a problem? Keeping all that stuff inside isn't really an option. (That's why I have cabinets in the garage.)

I had some M1 I bought from Walmart about 2-3 years ago, I just used the last jug last year without any weird thing in the jugs. My oil is kept in the garage's cabinets, it is low-mid 50's in winter and mid-high 80's in summer.

Ii don't know about quality of Super Tech(Walmart brand) because I never used it, but Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Castrol ... anywhere is the same.

There are mixed views. I was just wondering how the OP had stored it.

Ive seen Super Tech syn with chunks in the bottom while still on the shelf in the store. When it was in clear bottles, dont know if they still are clear.

To answer the storage question, I keep my oil in an unattached, unheated garage on Marylands Eastern Shore. The temperatures range between about 20 degrees in the winter and 90s in the summer. Super Tech is the only oil I am aware of that sells in a clear bottle so for all I know the same thing could exist in other oils but is not visible.It just wasn't one particle by the way but several. I have not tried to shake it and see if the particles rejoin the oil.
