Passing through Walmart automotive their 5 gallon gasoline and kerosene containers are in the $14.xx vicinity!! They were charging $4.50 last summer. This is right when people need K-1 for portable heaters to keep the pipes from freezing, etc.

Crooks. Local hardware store has 'em for $8 and that's rather high...

Just thank god you have a local hardware store that's still in business. Once walmart runs all the others out of business, the prices will go out of sight.

Has this REALLY ever happened? I know we always hear and say horror stories of "when walmart comes to town..." but have there been any widespread closures due to that store?

Frankly, i'll pay a mild premium to help out the "little guys" but when that small price increase is too large, i'll shop somewhere else. Walmart is usually at the bottom of my list on where to shop, but i don't have any reservations about going there.

ferb!

Ask the GM why this is! This is wrong and could be illegal.

When has that ever been a concern for Wal-mart? We know they hire illegal aliens and their own internal audits show numerous child labor law violations that go uncorrected.

We have lost a lot more since Lowes came in than Wal-Mart. We have lost K-mart, several lumber yards, a TSC type store, and some other stuff. don't know who to blame the NAPA closing on.

You guys sound a bit overregulated.

I am NOT defending Walmart.

So you are 100% sure the purchase price for WalMart didn't go through the roof? Probably NOT, but if you don't like the price shop elsewhere. Is WalMart a charity? I agree that hoarding by one supplier and then only selling a product at an extreme price and only when people are desparate is just wrong, but that's hardly the case here.

Swim trunks can be hard to find and expensive in the beggining of summer (just hard to find in the winter!) - people want them, lower selection, so suppliers charge more.

Oh we are talking energy/heating here, so there should be special allowances....I'm just thinking we are trying to overregulate. China doesn't have so many rules, I swear.

supply and demand (Valentine's Day)

I've often wondered why no consumer advocate group or elected official has ever made an issue of that. They never miss an opportunity to go after a local gas station who may raise their price a nickel a gallon at the start of the summer vacation season or the home heating oil dealer who does the same (like now when temps have plunged). All year long you can buy a dozen long stems for $35.00 then within one week of Valentine's Day those same roses go up to $60.00, sometimes as high as $80.00 at every single local florist. FTD florists are the worst.

As for Wally World....I'd almost wonder of someone at the store messed up with the pricing. Their prices are almost never higher than local hardware shops. If more than one store has those prices then I'd agree they are sticking it to their customers.

One thing is like death and taxes Walmart will start raising their prices after their first anniversity. What amazes me is how the Union members tell everyone how they should buy American and Union made. Yet drive through the parking lot of a Walmart, you will see a lot of vehicles with Union stickers. These same Union members buy everything they can at Walmart. But yet they want you to buy from their work place.
This is what the Grocery store strike over in Southern Califrnia is about. These stores know that Walmart is coming and are preparing for the war. Yet the Union ($17 per hour Cashiers)is saying that they want major raises. Walmart pays $7.00 per hour to their cashiers.

one thing i'm wondering is are they the same exact fuel cans that the your local stores have? I work for walmart and know we had a recall on all our fuel cans because of new goverment regulations. they have a new spout design. when we did get the new cans in we did have a price increase this was due to the cost being more for us.
