Walmart EverStart batteries longevity?

Some have mentioned Costco, would be a consideration if the warranty was non-prorated, for a little more. I have a membership. I'll have to look into it.
Costco batteries have a 3 year replacement on them, Rural King is the only place I know of that does Prorata anymore.

I need to buy a battery soon for a 2006 Honda Odyssey (size 24F).
I did some research on other threads on BITOG which discussed that car batteries are lasting less and less time due to the poor quality recycled lead being used in them due to lead availability.

I noticed Walmart has a store brand (Everstart) battery in different price points.
$60: Everstart Value: https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStar...ize-24F-12-Volt-585-CCA/47308797?athbdg=L1102
$120: Everstart Maxx: https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStar...-Battery-Group-Size-24F/28275657?athbdg=L1102

The reviews on Walmart's website are mixed, some say they last 6+ years, others say they only lasted a week.
Trying to figure out if the bad reviews were from people who might have had a parasitic drain and blamed it on the battery.

How many years would be a reasonable expectation for a Walmart brand Everstart battery to last?

Has anyone came across an outstanding car battery brand that had exceeded their expectations for the # of years it lasted,
or even point me in the direction of the best brand to buy based on reputation?

I'm looking for a car battery that would last 5+ years without needing to use the warranty.

Thanks,
Bill
I bought one of those yrs ago that lasted 7 yrs.
Perhaps I got lucky.

They are just as good as the other batteries and much less expensive with same warranty coverage. I switched to them years ago and am happy.

Batteries will have all different life spans in all different kinds of vehicles, all different climates and all different driving conditions. It's really impossible to compare. For instance, some cars have batteries under the rear seat instead of under the hood. The battery will last much longer under the seat not exposed to engine heat.
Also driving conditions, a battery will last much longer in a car used on a highway vs local driving if the battery is in the engine compartment as the battery will remain cooler at highway speeds.
Climate, a battery will last much longer in a cooler climate, again, if under the hood of the car in the engine department.

If you belong to Sams Club or Costco go with them or the Walmart MAXX brand. Confirm when buying but they have a 3 year over the counter replacement. Batteries are cheap. I typically replace them every 4 years no matter what. But my Traverse has it under the car seat, still working perfect but just occurred to me its 6 years old, Im amazed it still is good BUT its under the back seat of the car so it stays cool.
Anyway, as soon as I get the chance I will change it out. Makes no sense to me, to keep a battery longer than 4ish years old. Not only because of concern of being stuck but a weaker battery creates wear and tear on the electrical charging system.
If its losing charge more than normal but still perfectly ok to start your vehicle, its still taxing your charging system a bit more everyday because the vehicle is being started with a battery that needs more charging than normal and losing that charge when not being used over night, only to be repeated needing a full charge the next day, over and over everyday

Heat kills batteries and in the mist of all things cars, batteries are cheap.

The battery I changed in my Navi about 4 months ago had a 2017 date code on it, and I live in Texas. It was a Duracell brand, IIRC. Sat outside for 33 days when we were out of the country last summer (june 22). Wasn't happy about that, seemed like it was cranking slower, but didn't fail until the wintertime. Replaced with Walmart Maxx. Also have Walmart Maxx in the wife's Mitsubishi. It's hard to beat the Walmart prices for basically the same battery you'd get at a parts store for 25-40% more.

They fail in the winter because they need more amperage in the winter to crank over

Yes sir yes sir

I think that either QC has gotten better on them over the years, or else WM beefed up the specifications on them.
I say that because of the first 6 WM batteries that I had bought (going back to the mid '90's when they were selling Champion labeled batteries as their best) 5 of those did not make it out of the warranty period.
I quit buying their auto batteries for that reason.
However, about six years ago, I had the battery on our 2006 Odyssey go out after 10 PM on a Friday night.
Well, where is about the only place one gets a battery at that hour? Walmart.
Bought the Maxx version and installed it myself.
It was still going and testing strong three years later when I sold the van.

Here is the tough part. My 6 year old Walmart battery is not the same battery sold today. All you can do is hope Walmart to has some sort of standard and sticks to it. There is also maintenance free vs serviceable batteries. You don’t usually get a choice if you are shopping by size. Good luck with this.

This, especially the part in bold.
My pickup takes a 58.
If I'm buying at WM, I'll take the Plus and like it.
That's why I went to Costco and saved $40.

I like the Costco Interstate batteries, because if you bring it in under warranty, they just pull another off the shelf, no questions asked and no pro-rating. About $100 + tax.
If you are willing to spend $120, you can get an AGM at Costco for about $160 I believe.

Good luck.
Walmart has never tested a battery that I've warrantied out. I've replaced several under warranty there. For all they care, you could buy a Maxx, take it back in 34 months and trade it in for a brand new one - regardless of condition. Thank God AGM's are coming down.

Sure. But they are prorated, right? Costco just gives you a new one.

I didn't know that. I've been buying from Costco for many years due to their price and warranty. Sounds like others have caught up. Good to know.
Even when Walmart was doing prorates they gave a 3 year replacement than 2 years of prorata after the 3 years which is inline with Costco's, Walmart has the best warranty around on AGM batteries everywhere I've seen is 3 years but Walmart is 4 years that's unbeaten, well unless you wanna pay a fortune for an Enersys/Odyssey/Northstar battery I think those come with a 4 year warranty but I wouldn't recommend them because they're so expensive and they're typically special order so if you need one in a pinch if it goes bad you'll be SOL.

Sure, that's how Costco works. Otherwise people would swap batteries under warranty forever.
Until recently it appears Costco was actually just refunded people their original purchase price at a lot of warehouses and people could use the refund towards a new battery, but it appears Ken & Karen got butt-hurt over $5 and hired an ambulance chaser to file a class action when Costco was really doing them a favor.

There's too many variables (vehicle usage, climate, etc) to really get a decent idea of how long they last.

It's more important to realize that they aren't "Walmart" batteries, they are JCI or East Penn or some other manufacturer (seems to depend on your region). And no, those companies don't make cheaper versions for Walmart. These are the same batteries you get at Autozone, O'Reilly, local parts stores, etc.

Except cheaper. And I've had VERY poor results with Discount Auto Parts batteries over the last ten to fifteen years. I buy the top of the line WM batteries and I always get the stated (FULL warrantied) life out of them. And this part of the country is rough on batteries. I don't think WM batteries are BETTER than some other brands but they're significantly cheaper than anyone else.

Nope, WM fully warrents them for the stated life. Prorated anything is a SHAM. I neglected a WM battery and didn't keep it charged and it died so a couple of months ago I took it back and they gave me a new one. But the old one was a 3 year battery and it was IIRC 26 months old so they wouldn't warrantly the new one for more than the difference (10 months.)

Up until about 2016, the Champion labeled batteries were manufactured by GNB which is a subsidiary of the Exide group. That is also when many of those WalMart batteries were made by Exide. Exides of that generation were notorious for never making it to the rated warranty period. Sine then, most od the WalMart Everstart batteries have been sourced from Clarios or East Penn.
