Imagine the day when you won't have to worry about your precious VW 502.54.554.334 oil spec.

I guess it won't be called a GTI though if it's EV. 🤔
Oh wait...

"The letter “I” for injection in the GTI name now also stands for intelligence—in the form of the high-performance drivetrain and chassis. With the ID. GTI Concept, Volkswagen is presenting a new evolutionary stage of these electronically networked driving dynamics systems. Here, the Vehicle Dynamics Manager of the ID. GTI Concept integrates the powertrain into the control system to an even greater degree than on the gasoline models."

Great thread, always liked the GTI for what it is. Fun car, good looks, well priced.

Now in electric for those speed enthusiasts this will be interesting. It very well maybe a $30,000 but I dont know maybe 35k? The story suggests lower but... well "I dont know" *LOL* Who does until it happens and when it does will it be able to be bought at the sticker.
Anyway, here is more on it. FWD - 80 more HP than the gas model.

The lowest price for a current 2025GTI is $32.445. I wonder if they can meet that with an EV.

They are in the upper $30's I thought, near $40k.
Depends on trim. The $32K I quoted in VW's MSRP for the S trim: Plaid seats and 7 speed DSG transmission. Higher trim levels are more expensive.

Where did you pull this stat from?

Too little, too late, and not fast enough. The problem is that VW's metric is to make it similar in performance to the current GTI. No one that cares about speed leaves a GTI stock. It's a GTI looking EV that will get its doors ripped off by actual performance EVs and still be heavy enough to not throw around corners as well as an ICE GTI. 5 seconds to 60 is slow in a car that can't be tuned. The GTI is pretty good as is, but it's a bit too restrained. That's where the aftermarket comes in. A basic tune is a must to wake it up. It's one of the best cars I've ever owned. The problem is that VW just wants to do the bare minimum when it comes to EVs.

VW has lost me when it comes to EVs.

Yea, the Golf R is knocking on $50K.
Knocking on? Passed it up this year. $54k for the new MK8.5 with no markup at my preferred VW dealer.
