So I did the yearly change (low mileage) on the VW Cabriolet. Started it up and heard something that sounds like it is loose in the engine.
I waited for a few minutes with the engine running to see if it was just a lack of oil flow but it didn't go away.
Called my partner outside and asked him about the noise and he said it had been making it for some time.
I did a compression test, cut the old filter open to see if there was any metal shavings etc. and nothing bad could be found. The compression was just shy of factory specs on all cylinders.
Seeing as I had just put a rocker cover seal on it not that long ago I took the rocker cover off and had a look, and all looked ok.
I took the oil pan off as well and had a look and all was well. Check and made sure everything was tight with no play.
Any ideas? or anyone familiar enough with this engine that can tell me about this problem?
The car runs and operates fine, but makes the noise at hot idle up to 2K rpm, anything over that and it goes away...
Car has the 1.8L 8 valve engine with just under 200K KM on it. Timing belt was done about 20K KM ago and the tension is OK (checked it)
