This is an H6 size Varta AGM battery for a VW (Tiguans and R models seem to have them)

I'm coming up with not available on all the usual sites, presumably because no one want to ship a 100LB battery with Acid.

Is it actually available or superseded? List price?

I just replaced our Tiguan battery. The OE battery was Group 48 EFB type.
I went with the NAPA Legend Group 48/H6 AGM. I had to register the new battery with my Ancel VD700.
You can also get a Motorcraft Test Tough Max AGM battery that is also a Group 48/H6.
Both are 760 CCA and 70 ah.
If you have a Costco nearby, get you an Interstate Group 48/H6 AGM battery.

OP is probably concerned about recoding the BMS - a genuine VW battery has a serial number on it. Aftermarket batteries will work in theory but aren’t coded. Many have said changing the OE code by a few characters is fine.

My OE battery is a H5 EFB. It did not want to start today and is on a charger, it is ~5 years old and is testing at less than 100A DIN and 21.58M-Ohm Res so it is probably getting a battery tomorrow.

I've got a pretty good idea what I'm putting in it if i cannot get a VW battery for about the same.

You can code an aftermarket battery by AH.

Interesting-normally AGMs are the ONLY batteries that can be shipped, because they’re sealed, unlike conventional lead-acid ones.
Based on some searching VW does not seem to be the best about properly cataloging batteries. they pretty much all say "conventional" but are sometimes noted "Type 1" or "Type 2" which is presumably EFB or AGM.

EFB is a VW thing. Just replace it with a similar size, CCA and Ah AGM and recode it.
Non-binary AGM, you will be asked for a 10 digit battery number. Just use the date installed and add two zeros.
It will also ask for Amp hours. Input new battery amp hours.

Yup I know, however bonus points for anyone with a Clarios MFG code.

Headed to dealer shortly to see what they offer.

So the topic battery has been superseded a few times. Was over 450.00 with our admittedly high tax rate and core. I opted for Plan A.

The newest number is apparently 000 915 089 (db) i think it was.

Yeah, I wasn’t going to pay the price that the dealer wanted for a new battery.
For that price, I bought 2 Group 48/H6 760 CCA 70 Ah AGM batteries.

.
My own Mini Cooper (MY 2013, built date 7.2012) has its first AGM battery.
Again, my own GTI (MY 2018, built date 7.2017) still has its first EFB battery.
My wife's former formerly owned a Golf TDI and its factory battery has been
still ok after 14 years. My old Porsche 930 (911 turbo) is a different story . . . .
Either way, I will definitely get an OE battery when I need a new one. No doubt.

MParr - I if i could have gotten it for the same price as what i did i probably would have.

930 - I get what you're saying. Not super impressed with stock battery though.

I know there's a bunch of negative energy around these but I have good Service from Optima, that's what it got.

I programed it as a 72AH "Fleece" because this is a flat plate Optima, not sure if that's right or not, but per comments "Binary - AGM" is for spiral cell.

I asked Optima and if i get a reply i will.

Of note the BEM sticker on the stock battery said "EMC" (Johnson Controls Mexico) but the factory programming was "JCB".

I really don't think anything but the chemistry and amp hours matters but who knows.

I see the Ancell VD700 is $139.99 on Amazon but $79.99 on eBay. Anyone have any idea why the difference?

Even less with the 20% eBay coupon until the 16th.

When I bought mine from Amazon about half a year ago, it was under the same deal that's currently running -- $140 - $23 coupon, plus free carrying case. I think the case promo comes and goes, but there is usually a coupon attached to shave some off the $140 MSRP.

So, $117 + tax with a case that sells for $23 separately.

If I were doing it now, I'd certainly consider the eBay option, given the price difference, but still keeping in mind the ease of customer service Amazon offers, albeit at the higher cost. Whether that tradeoff is worthwhile is a personal choice.

The various eBay options are probably legitimate goods, but from resellers who may or may not have a link to Ancel. Chinese brands are very vague with respect to retail relationships, compared to Western brands where direct/factory, authorized dealer/reseller, or 3rd party seller relationships are easier to suss out. With Chinese brands, everyone claims to be "official" or "direct" and so on, and it's difficult to get a clear picture of who actually is.

The storage case is a typical molded EVA hard shell, which is nice to have, but I wouldn't consider it a must have, especially since the unit may already come with a bag, like mine did. It was also cardboard boxed, and not packaged in a designed-by-satan hard plastic clamshell blister pack like the units seen in the various YT video reviews.

Be sure to follow Amazon's instructions if trying to take advantage of their promo; it's not the most logical process and requires some active steps, rather than just automatically including both items in the cart, and during checkout, the credit will be split between both items, rather than one being free.
