VW Automatic Emergency Braking

In my situation, I wasn’t following too closely. The system identified the pouring rain as another vehicle.
Clearly not ready for prime time, unless you live somewhere in the desert where it doesn't rain much. I could see it being a nightmare in a state like Florida. I guess that will be two systems I disable if I end up with a car equipped with that system. Stop/Start and an AEB system. On a recent visit to Florida I had a 2024 Rogue as a rental with Stop Start, in a word the system sucked. I was going to write a review on it but decided it wasn't worth the hassle. ;)

Yes, both are undesirable, but failure of missed braking means you hit someone in front of you. Unintended braking only causes an accident if someone is behind you and following too close for conditions. Since this situation is most likely in rain, people behind should keep a greater following distance anyway.
I don’t think you see the contradiction here. On one end you say it’s good the system reacts to even phantom events because it will save you in a real event and on the other you say people behind should pay attention.

But if it saved you in a real event, it means you didn’t pay attention and were following too closely😉

I think I’ll stick with an adequate following distance and paying attention to my surroundings. No charged collisions in 55 years. I don’t need a uncommanded full brake application at 25MPH. But thanks anyway.
Absolutely agree.

Uncommanded full brake application, when I am driving safely, with correct following distance, and aware of my surroundings, puts me at risk.

A new risk that did not exist without the system. I am aware of my surroundings. I see a ball come into the street, and I know, long before the braking system registers anything, that a kid is likely to follow, so, I begin to slow.

In a lot of ways, this system is like the 737 Max MCAS - the engineers are going to “save you” - by applying full nose down controls when you, the pilot didn’t want them, because they know better.

And we all know how MCAS worked out…

Agreed and one of the many reasons why fully self driving technology has a very long way to go. Sadly a lot of people will die in the process of trying to perfect it. Maybe I should hide now.

I'm saying that vehicles that follow too closely are a hazard to traffic in front of them, for whatever reason. Can't you understand that?
Can you understand that:
1. Vehicles do fallow close.
2. Trucks need more distance to stop.
3. Vehicles are driven by people. They are conditioned to predictability.
In your case you don’t have to worry. Your tires are already put in wrong direction, so there you go. You mitigated that emergency braking by already having compromised braking force.

This was the very reason we traded-in the Passat. The Forward Collision System activated three times in the same month with no one in front of me. Twice, almost causing me to get rear-ended with my Son in the back seat. I took it to the dealership twice and they couldn't find anything wrong. I really liked the car but i couldn't deal with that anxiety.

This happened to me with a press loaner, a Mercedes S580e, really scary stuff as you don't expect it to work where it's not supposed to work. Thankfully no one was behind me.

Knock on wood, it didn't happen with my GLI or Atlas yet.

We just received a class action lawsuit letter on VW of America AEB System. Is this a scam or what? ... .
I got this notification this past Saturday; i briefly glanced at it. I was wondering what AEB was, LOL.

When demoing my 2019 Jetta lease features, my salesperson said my car had automatic braking. One day I decided to test this system out on my two large Rubbermaid trash barrels at the end of my parking spot. Ran up on them at about 15 mph. Rammed right into them and punted them booth into the woods.

Is the system supposed to be active at 15 mph?
