Isn’t the Atlas also the Audi Q7? Can’t be that bad if it shares such a platform.

Not the same platform.

Atlas is on the MQB platform with the Golf, etc and the Q7 share the MLB Evo+ platform with all the good cars, from the A8 to the Lamborghini Urus.

If the Atlas was on the same platform, it would have been at least as expensive as the outgoing Touareg and that didn't work out too well for VW.

The front end is very very clunky. Bumps on the freeway lately make it wander and feel floaty.

I jacked up the front yesterday and the lower control arm bushings are bad, and the inner tie rods have some play in them. So next week I’m having that fixed and it’s getting new Bilstein struts with Mopar strut mounts.

Other than minor cracks, the bushings are fine. It's supposed to have all those slits, for ride comfort.

VW's are even softer, as it has additional holes top and bottom for additional compliance.

Fortunately, the aftermarket has heavier "S3" style bushings for the older platform cars

We have a 2.0 in our '18 Q5 and the car is very quick. I also had it in our '18 A4 and that car was even quicker. I know the audi 2.0 has some more horsepower and torque and a dual clutch transmission but really cant see the Passat and Atlas being that slow.
The Passat has a detuned 2.0T engine, and earlier ones got a detuned Budack cycle engine from the Tiguan.

When I grab the wheel and rock it at 9 & 3 while it’s jacked up, the bushing has a lot of play.

The VW Atlas is very popular around here. We have a local decent VW dealer in town that helps. It’s quite roomy and a real comfy 7 Adult passenger vehicle. Otherwise nothing special.

Atlas is MQB platform (Golf, Tiguan, Euro Passat, Arteon > transversely mounted engines),
while Q7 (and Q8) share(s) most tech with VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini
Urus with many similarities to Audi's MLB platform (A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Porsche Macan
> longitudinally mounted engines and transmissions).
I'm surprised some dislike the Atlas that much. Does it actually feel THAT different compared
to, say, a Tiguan? It's basically the same tech, just bigger and a tad heavier.
I too asked myself why they don't put the 2.5 VR6 TSI from the Chinese Teramont into the
Atlas and the Tiguan, but this engine's probably too expensive for the US Atlas and too thursty
for very most European Tiguan customers.
