Hi guys , i have quite a few VAG cars in the extended family that require 5w30 504 spec oils so i have a decent stash on hand of mobil 1 esp 5w30 . I recently took delivery of a 2023 Tiguan R ( ea888 evo4 high output ) with the same engine as the mk8 R . Is it ok to use the M1 esp 5w30 or should i go and find a suitable 0w30 504 spec ? The sticker in the engine bay say it was filled with 0w30 , must i stick with 0w30 or will 504 spec in a different viscosity be fine in regards to keeping the engine happy and warranty as long as its 504 ?

All 504 oils will be xW-30. Whether it's 0w30 or 5w30 is irrelevant.

Agreed. Some Mercedes-Benz approvals no longer list acceptable grades but that's an exception. It's pretty meaningless with a minimum HT/HS.
I believe my Atlas has a sticker under the hood staying 0W30 AND 502 or 504....I'll check when my wife gets home this afternoon.

It should be like some manuals I used to see....504 then a grade chart showing temps so colder you want the 0W30 and hotter the 5W30 (for 504) etc.

Over time specs drift. When 504.00 was launched it was 5W-30 only, then 0W-30 was added later. Any car sold in the early days will ask for 5W-30 but should be OK to also take 0W-30.

Stick with the ESP 5W-30 since you already have it. Plus, it has slighly lower NOACK than the ESP 0W-30 ;).
Am I correct that the 5W only comes in single quart containers? Unless I'm missing it this is a reason why I'm running the 0W since I can grab a 5 qt for ~$37 or so.

Autozone and Advance Auto sell Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30, if you can get it with an oil filter special that makes it a bit cheaper. Here it sells for the same $37. I have not seen the 0W-30 in a five-quart container.

An alternative is Pennzoil Platinum Euro L at Walmart for $26.50, although it does not have VW 504 00 approval it does have BMW Longlife-04 which is similar (and Mercedes-Benz 229.51). I've been using it in my Tiguan for a while now.
