VSOT Renamed

So VSOT will no longer be available? I have about a 6 month supply, and am very pleased with the product.

I got some to pump-up my Havoline 5w-20. I'll only use some of it, saving some to moly-up my Havoline Synth. That's it, just one bottle. One Pep Boys was out with a out-of-stock tag in it's place. Pep Boys #2 had a ton of it. $4.49, iirc.

I just noticed...VSOT still exists on Valvoline's website(...which is in need of some major updating, IMO), but it has disappeared from www.teamsynpower.com.
Looks like yet another PB run is in order. Gary Allen, you have been warned!

i went to PB yesterday and they said that the only one they will no longer be carrying is STP oil treatment...you know, the 4 cylinder formula, 6cyl etc.... the guy said that he heard nothing about VSOT at the latest buyer's meeting and as far as he knew they would still be getting more, though i grabbed the last bottle

Ok, well, before we bemoan the loss (or not) of the beloved VSOT, am I wasting the stuff, or creating sludge with used up additive with VSOT? IS the moly really necessary in a brand new car? Is the moly in the VSOT redundant with all the moly in Havoline @ 400PPM, or even Mobil 1 with 70-80 PPM?

Or are moly, calcium, zinc and boron the collective holy grail, and no matter how much is in the oil you use for your OCI, more is always better via VSOT-add? For sure the stuff thickens the oil a little, is THAT a factor to consider?

Those questions asked, in my old 92, I added an ounce a qt at OCI of Mobil 1. And in this new car I added an oz. a quart with the motorcraft changes, none for the Havoline OCI, as Havoline seems to have a ton of moly as it is. Does a new engine on Mobil 1/5000-7500 mile-OCI really need VSOT?

My PEP in Northern Va. always seems to have plenty of VSOT AND G-05! YESSS!

I was at the Checkers here and the counter guy checked and said he shows 900 bottles of VSOT in their mainland wearhouse. I emailed team synpower but never got a response.

weird...I went to Pepboys in Sanford, NC, and saw about 5 bottles of VSOT (old type), and got 3 of those...funny that some PB's don't have them.

I still have some on hand ..but I always wonder about availability of this stuff in the future. I wish Walmart carried it. They finally began stocking Regane Complete Fuel System Cleaner ..at about the same price as the local SOPUS rep sells it for ($31.xx a case of six - Walmart @ 5.xx/bottle). Too expensive to use every 3k as recommended

Anyone can walk in off the street and purchase from a local distributor - they'll charge you retail pricing, and not wholesale if you don't have a business. The only drawback of dealing with a distributor is that they sell by the case, but with this product, a case is just six bottles.

I don't know if the formula is the same. The similarities in part numbers seems to imply that.

Anyone planning to do a VOA on the new stuff, and see if its VOA matches the old VSOT (and thereby be able to confirm for us if the new stuff is the same formula as the old VSOT, or not)?

I personally have no problem buying the stuff by the case (if that is what it takes), but I would hate to buy a case or three of the stuff, only to find my cars where less happy (because it wasn't the same formula we all seem to love)...

NOTE: After clearing out the two stores in town that carried VSOT, I managed to score 9 bottles total (which means I have 8 unopened bottles + 1 partially used on). So my "stash" is good for at least a few months, but it will eventually be used up. So naturally I'm interested in getting some more (if it really is available under a new name, if you buy a whole case), or (if that isn't possible) look for alternatives...

I said at least a few months (i.e. it may very well last longer). And FWIW that's with multiple vehicles to treat...
