Vr38 built motor

There is a guy on the gtr r35 page that has built motor from same place and uses wix 57202 instead of the 51060 racing filter. He said he has close to 15k miles without any problems from using that filter. What’s your opinion on that? And a lot of guys that track the gtr use oem filter with 15w50
I think the OEM filter would be fine, it's a compromise of flow and efficiency. I don't have a GTR, I have an affinity for GTR's I would very much like to have one one day. I have been around quite a few pretty quick cars. There are GTR's VR38's that make tremendous power 2000+hp, they make pass after pass. I know the levels of build, bottom end block work, so on. With any build though, you have to be reasonable with the driving procedure. Heck, when it's cold I take it easy on everything I have.

If it was me, I would warm the car up slowly let it idle, drive it slowly get everything warm. Don't beat on the car when it's really cold, more than likely the car will spin anyway. As far as the filter the builder want's flow over filter efficiency.

I wonder if I’ll be ok using a wix 57202 with 9-11 gpm flow and 15psi bypass or wix 51060 non race with no bypass and also 9-11 gpm. Wix 51060 racing filter flows 28 gpm and no bypass

Need more info......what year GTR you driving? How much power? Turbos etc......I have alot of experience with that engine. What shop built it? So 15w50 300v? What are your outdoor temps and is the car garaged? If Garaged it does not matter. Parked outdoors depends....

Really depends on how much HP its pushing......over 1000hp stick with the 15w50 no matter what.........Id say under 1000hp the 5w50 is fine. Garaged 15w50.......you running E50?

Im out here in AZ, and GTRs over 1000hp run pretty much the same oil 15w50 year round........I got a guy in my club making 1500whp, and he runs 15w50......

Stick with the shops recommendation of the filter......its the one most used on modified GTRs.....WIX 51060R racing filter correct?
You think it will be ok to use the wix 57202 instead of the 51060R. Even a lot of power boat don’t like the racing filter from how the bearings looked during engine refresh. 61 microns is terrible and would like to use the 57202. It has 15psi bypass the racing filter doesn’t. 9-11 gpm vs 28 for racing filter. I just don’t know if I really need the racing filter for a fun weekend car that makes 750hp on 93.

Hello everyone, my car has a built motor and upgraded turbos and the shop that built the motor says to use motul 15w50 and wix racing filter. Here in nyc it’s starting to get cold, would I be ok using 5w50 instead. People on other forums for my car said I would blow out the seals for the vvt with 15w50 in the cold. What would happen if I don’t use the wix racing filter, not a fan that it only filters to 60 microns
Unless they are an official rep for wix I don't see why you couldn't use a brand of your choice.
