Built and supercharged Challenger Oil Recom?

Ok, called the shop, asked about the 15W50 and winter time and the guy said "just run 15W50 it doesn't get cold enough in TN to worry about it". He didn't go in to details on why 15W50.

I did find 15W50 at a local Wal-Mart. $22.50 for a 5qt tub is a good deal for this oil.

However, as one final check I called Mobil 1's tech line and asked them. The guy at Mobil 1 said he felt 15W50 would be good for summer, but said it would be pretty thick for winter time use if temps got below 20°F. He recommended their M1 10W40 as a good compromise and year round use in the engine. I asked about the "high mileage" designation and he said that made absolutely NO difference. I found a VOA for the 10W40 here and it looks pretty good to me with a healthy additive pack. The Data Sheets on M1's site show it's not far off the 15W50 either, just a hair thinner when cold.

Therefore I've decided on M1 10W40 HM and a Purolator PureOne filter for this car. Thanks to all who gave insight.

I'd personally run Mobil 1 5w-40 in the winter, but that's just me. Run the 15w-50 in the summer, especially if you're going to be hammering that beast.
 
I would use these in this order. They all are easily available at Wal-Mart.

1) Shell Rotella T6 5w40 Synthetic
2) Mobil 1 10w40 High Mileage Synthetic
3) Mobil 1 15w50 Synthetic

I try not to out think the people who make a living building H.P. engines and have a repeat busisness.

What makes you think the oil is to thick and the people who you trusted to build THE ENGINE are smart enough to do the work and not know what oil works best ?

It has nothing to do with their knowledge but more application. Their average customer has a car built to race. In that application no doubt 15W50 is the way to go. Number one the car gets run pretty hard and number two there's no racing in the winter.

For my application (fast street car) the oil requirements are a bit different.

I'm not sure it would really matter in the grand scheme of things, but I wanna try to take the best care of the car that I can and I'm not just a sheep that follows what someone tells me. I do my own research and checking/testing. I'll run the 10W40 for a while and run some analysis to see how it's doing and go from there.

Another well respected engine shop recommends 10W30 in similar builds, so I'm not sure there is really a TRUE answer.

I asked the question on this forum because most folks are good to back up their recommendations with some information to help validate.
