VQ40DE, Oversize?

Anyone running an oversized filter on there Nissan VQ40DE (Pathfinder, Frontier etc.) specifically either a Wix 51356 or Napa Gold 1356?

Also could a car company deny you warranty coverage if you use an oversize oil filter?

Gee ... that oversize 51356 is smaller than my regular size. I run the Wix 51040.

Ok... Now I'm all confused first I was sold a Napa Gold 1358 then I did some reading and the larger 51356 will fit now you say the Wix 51040 will work? Ok I guess I will try that one. Thanks

I said the oversize filter for YOUR car is smaller than the regular size filter for MY car.

Do NOT go buy a Wix 51040 !!

I don't think you will find anything bigger than the 51356, which is essentially the same size as the PureOne PL14610. I've ran that trap line a couple times for my VQ35, and that's as big as I can find. Those filters have around 100 sq-in of media, which is plenty for that engine.

I run the larger filters on every VQ in the family, including the 2 I had, and the 2 my folks have had. They all spec the smaller filter except my folks '00 VQ30. I have never had a problem with this regimen and I am going to keep going with it.

I specifically use the Purolator PL14610 or the Napa Gold 1356.

The 1356 is certainly an option. I'll throw out another, the NG 7356, Wix 57356, it's Wix's newer version of the 1356 which it now specs for Hondas. It too is equivalent the 14610/7317. Don't think I'd go much larger.

Never understood why Nissan/Infiniti specs the shorty version (14612/6607) of the 14610/7317, when I've not read a case where the longer wouldn't fit.
