VPRacing 10w40, 3700mi, 2002 Honda S200

With some issues with fuel dilution (still having issues with) and dirt ingress (getting a handle on), I switched to VPR's 10w40 for this last OCI.

Oil: VP Racing RS1040 10w40
Mileage: 3700
Date: September to January (high heat to moderate temps)
Style of driving: 2/3 city driving, 1/3 highway
Oil filter: K&N
Air filter: OEM (new at start of OCI)
Make up oil: 1/2qt

Once again I want to thank Terry Dyson for the interpretation and suggestions to help correct current issues. For me, a value and money well spent.
I am satisfied with how VPR's oil has performed despite being put through the wringer with high fuel dilute and raised dirt ingress.

Are those viscosity numbers for real??? Other than that, it's not too bad.

Better go back to el cheapo 5w-20 though; it still produced the best report!

Is the flashpoint of the VP 10W/40 really 240 or is that a typo?
The dilution and dirt issues are "mechanical" issues rather then oil related, right? Thanks for the posting. I'll be using VP oil when my engine has finished breaking in.
 
Thanks for posting...I have two cases of it to use this summer in my race cars...I am curious to see how it does.
 
Drew99T, the viscosity numbers are not a typo. What I 'better' do is get the fuel dilution issue figured out.

Cicero, the flashpoint is not a typo. Yes the fuel dilution and dirt are 'mechanical' issues. The oil had to protect while being pummeled by these issues. I am satisfied with the job the oil did. *shrug*
 
A 10w-40 oil with an EOT viscosity of only 9.1 Cst (the SAE 40wt range is 12.5-16.5 Cst @ 100C), is horrible performance... I'd recommend the Redline 10w30 or 5w-40 for this high revving motor.

You really get what you pay for when it comes to synthetic lubricants and this VP stuff just isn't doing the job. Even with the 0.5-1.5% fuel dilution, the FP should be much higher.

Remember though that the final fuel dilution number may not be real indicative of what the fuel does to the oil throughout the OCI. I assume the oil was hot when changed. However, most of the oil's life may have been spent not getting hot, so the fuel dilution result & effects would be much larger than what the used oil analysis shows.

Why do you suggest fixing a 'mechanical' problem with oil chemistry? The simple solution is fix the mechanical problems and then worry about fine tuning the oil. Why grasp for straws to fix a problem when there are known solutions for said problem? Changing the oil chemistry will also just hinder the ability to tell if the 'mechanical' problems have been fixed.

I'll agree! You could put any oil in there you want,regardless,the fuel dilution will still occur and break down the oil until he figures out what is causing the problem.
