Hello,

I'm doing a power steering fluid flush on my 2001 Volvo S80 2.9 and wanted to know what type of fluid would you recommend? My owners manual have atf as the fluid to use and I'm also a member of several other Volvo forums and everyone there recommend Pentosin ch11s or genuine Volvo power steering fluid. I'm not sure what psf is currently in the reservoir and it's very confusing when it comes to what psf Volvo uses? Any idea's? Thank's

Volvo switched to the CHF 11s around that time, but the owners manual was wrong for years and Volvo took too long to update the mistake.

CHF 202 can be used where 11s is called for as well. There is also a Prestone European power steering fluid that is compatible with 11s. You can also get it under the Febi brand.

What does it say on the PS reservoir cap? What color is the fluid in there now? If it's green, then you need the CHF.

I haven't checked the color of the fluid but its good knowing the owners manual was wrong in using atf, I was at walmart and they had prestone european power steering fluid for $7.00...I'll have to check it out.

Your manual is WRONG. Volvo updated the spec and didn't update the manual.

Your car shipped from the factory with the CH-11s in the system, and the Volvo fluid is the same stuff in a Volvo bottle.

But hey, a rack is $1200 to replace....so, saving a buck on the fluid isn't a great idea....

Edit: I'm echoing others...trust us...
