Volvo emission test results

1989 Volvo 745 turbo; 214K (Kilometers). 0ppm NOx?

. They never hit boost on these tests and I'd be curious to see emissions then.

Max Allowable:

HC: 88ppm driving; 110ppm idle
CO: .65% driving; .84% idle
NOx: 960ppm

I'm impressed. 17yr old car and still very clean.

Wow, very clean indeed, especially the recent NOx reading and Driving HC. Did you change out some ignition parts or did the gas becomes oxygenated?

By the way, why are you smoging so many times? In California we only need to do it every 4 years (every other year you pay a small fee (cheaper than smog) or smog, obviously you will pay instead of).

I've had the car for 2yrs (11K miles) and haven't changed any ignition parts and I don't see PO records either. I'm also wondering if cat was replaced..?

That's running 87 octane Chevron ... warmed it up 6 miles prior to test.

I didn't know California smog testing was required every 4yrs. Wow. In the Greater Vancouver area the smog test is required to insure vehicle.

A few of those tests were a fail so a re-test was needed. Granted a yearly test is a pain in the behind.

wow! congrats!

Probably being turbo, its low static compression helps. Mine 21 year old GM is nothing to compete with these results but 67ppm idle HC is much lower than many new cars here.

Looks like it may have had the cat replaced before the 2003 test.

Panda, in Vancouver cars older than 1992 get smogged every year. Newer ones go every 2 years. Mine's coming up in a couple months too.

I believe that a smog check is usually required every two years for vehicles more than four years old but 1976 or newer in California.
