Grease, Thanks for the HDEO Compliation! I've also been seaching for good HD Marine oil that will take the abuse I throw at my Heads and Cam 360 CI Smallblock. I've decided on using Schaeffer's #700 15w40 PAO Blend this summer. I don't think there's a better oil out there for my boat than this one IMO.

Here are the VOA specs if you would like to add them to your list.....

Moly 169
Phosphorus 1429
Zinc 1405
Calc 3705
Cst 14.64
TBN 12

Also you left out Pennzoil 15w40 Long Life HDD

Boron 91ppm
Calcium 3051ppm
Phophorous 1001ppm
Zinc 1206ppm
Molybdenum 128ppm
VIS@100C 15.11
TBN 10.34

Ryan,

Thanks for the heads up on the Schaeffer's. I'll add it and certainly consider it for my own use. I had included the LL, but called it Shell instead of PZ

GREAT STUFF!!! I've been thinking about doing this also, just too dang lazy, plus, it's Monday.
Wellllllllllllllllllllllll........
I can tell you which ones I DON'T like: the oils with no moly. There is plenty of argument about that one lately, but moly is a well proven high pressure AW additive that has been proven time and time again. And this is a boat motor...... So from that, I'd narrow it down even further by eliminating the ones with no boron......that would start pointing me towards the Pennz. LL for dino and M1 0W-40 for synthetics. Also really like the Redline, but it's expensive. I change out the oil in the engine at the end of every season, regardless of hours. I usually don't run alot, like there are that many lakes in Oklahoma, but if I keep this current train of thought, I'd probably be wasting good Redline. I also don't really want to leave used oil in the engine all winter either....I'd go with Pennz. (which I already did and this just makes me feel sooooo much better)

Schmoe,

Be sure to give us a UOA of that LL at the end of the season. There are far too few UOA's posted from boats.

I think the LL is a good choice, but the schaeffer's looks pretty good too.

How about mixing a little M1 0-40 with some M1 15W50? Something like a 3:2 ratio that would give you about a 16? Good synthetic, good additives, readily available, and decent price. I like the idea more and more

Nice job! Another HDEO is Esso XD-3, which is a full synthetic with group IV (PAO) basestock. It is affordable and readily available around here, especially compared to Delvac 1 or Amsoil.

I posted a VOA of the 0w40 XD-3 a while back.

Thanks, I'll get it added in the next week.

Great, thanks! I just bought a case of 16L to use it in my 6.0 PSD, should have an UOA in about 12 weeks since I do about 800km/week. Have you done one yet since?

Would you mind throwing on that chart the facility that the oil was anylized at? I'm not sure if each place uses the same techniques, but it's just more thurough.

Hi fellow members:

Im interested in how the ESSO XD-3 UOA will look like. I got the dino 15w40 "dino" cheap and cant wait to try the "diesel" oil out in my "gas" powered truck. Im looking forward to the UOA because im looking to go with the 0w30 POA for the winter months, as its a steal at $4.25 per litre Canadian funds

No, but I'm looking forward to yours!! I'm running the 0w40 in two vehicles now, neither a diesel (Saab turbo, and a 93 toyota 4x4 V6 with 200K miles ). It will be another 4-5 months before I have a UOA.

At about $4.25/l in Halifax, it certainly is a good price...

Uoa is coming soon but I not sure if I can expect good results. On the Ford dieselforum a number of members have been sending in their oil analysis and they all have been datalogged in a pdf file. http://members.aol.com/fmtrvt/OilStudy/60current.pdf
The 6.0 PSD looks to be rather hard on the oil with most analysis showing the oil viscosity breaking down, even with Delvac1.
Although the iron, silicon and fuel dilution seem to be trending down, especially after about 20,000 miles so it looks like the 6.0 PSD just takes a long time to break in.
