My 69 dodge and 71 plymouth would both clear the speedo at 140. We didn't have decent radars back then to see if the car was going faster, but did time some of them thru measured markers and were able to come up with 150 to 160 mph on some of the cars. They were the 440 magnums with holly 4 barrel double pumper carbs. They were darn fast and handled corners very well. I had two very tight curves with max super on them on one of our state highways that I could take at 120 mph on dry pavement. Ah, the good ole days. Incidently, I only had one vehicle in twenty-nine years that ever out ran me and that was a corvette that had a mile jump on me.
Awesome, now how would the Crown-Vic's today with the 4.6 Liter Engines compare. Your story has me thinking about that movie with Steve McQueen, I think it was called Bullit, where he was driving a Mustang and chasing a Dodge Charger.
