Vehicle is a 2006 Extended Chevy Express 3500 with 6.0L. I'm currently running castrol edge 5w30. It consumes oil at about 1 qt. Per 1000 miles. I'm going to switch to castrol edge high mileage for the next oil change. I bought the 5w30 but then heard oil with closer viscosity numbers say 10w30 have less modifiers and generally will consume less. The guy at the auto parts store also suggested running Lucas oil oil stabilizer. it just seems to thicken the oil. So with that why wouldn't I just run heavier oil altogether such as 10w40. Is there any truth to any of this? It would be cool if all my vehicles ran the same oil. Just put rotella T 15w40 in the van and my race bike lol.
