I can't speak to what the oil actually might be, but we do have a few 0w30 HDEO options up here, but with the HTHS all in the neighbourhood of 3.5, of course. Rotella has a 0w30 available only in Canada. Petro-Canada has one; a distributor down south might be able to get it. Mobil does as well, but I believe it's only available in Canada, Mobil Delvac Elite 222 0w-30. I'm not sure about the MRV right now, but at one time it was pretty spectacular. Unfortunately, all my old data sheets (i.e. before the CJ-4 rollout) are on another hard drive "somewhere," so I don't have them handy.

An appropriately certified CJ-4 0w30 would, of course, have suitable HTHS for more varied operation than something with a lower HTHS.

The HTHS is 2.7 @ 150C
I believe they want to use it at all temps, from cold climate to the hottest climates.

Where in the heck are they finding any type of diesel oil with such a low HTHS? One could find an A1/B1 20 of some sort, I suppose, but I'd consider the B1 a bit shaky at best. Even the FA-4 oils don't fall into this category.

I don't know either. I do know the trend to go to xW-30 synthetics for diesels, but this is a very odd change to a 0W-20 for arctic and hot climates. The cost I have found was 3x normal 15w40 prices, and they are promoting it as being able to extend oil change intervals by 2x (never addressed filtration changes).

It's interesting, but we already have enough oils out there that are unicorns.

oh, and just to add:

if the oil is newtonian, the HTHS would be +3.0. If a very shear stable polymer was used, I think 2.9 cP is likely for this oil in new, undiluted condition.

It'll work for the most recent PC diesel engines.

I wouldn't, either. There are specialty products offered in Canada for such use, with the appropriate HTHS and cold starting abilities, already having CJ-4 or being called suitable for. Mobil and Shell and Petro-Canada have 0w30 and 0w-40 options here, with appropriate cold weather numbers without dropping into a 20 grade, or even an ILSAC 30 type HTHS.
