This filter is a Motorcraft FL-910 equivalent.

code:

Pleat Element Element

Depth # Pleats Width Area

.594" 72 1.75" 149.63 sq. in.

My daughter has a '05 Ford Focus ZX5 SES (a terrific car, incidently). This is the only filter I have on hand for it, to cut open. I'm gonna get my hands on the following filters for it, to also cut open:

Motorcraft FL-910 (OEM filter)
Motorcraft FL-400 (longer version of OEM filter)
Motorcraft FL-2005S (for T-Keith's benefit

has different gasket from FL-910/FL-400)
Wix 51315 (FL-2005S equiv.)
Fram PH9566
Wix 51214 (longer version of 51215, spec for Jaguar)
Wix 51516 (same size as 51214, but lower burst psi, larger micro rating, FL-400 equiv)
Supertech ST3600

Any other suggestions are welcome!

(59 Vetteman: I've finally figured out what the "code" button is for!

The gasket on the FL-400 is smaller than the gasket on the FL-1A. Here are their sizes:

code:

Filter Gasket O.D. Gasket I.D.

FL-400 2.734" 2.430"

FL-1A 2.834" 2.462"

They both use 3/4-16 threads.

Now, the question is whether or not the gasket dimensions are different enough to preclude using a FL-1A instead of a FL-400. I guess it depends on the mating surface for the gasket on your engine's filter adapter.

I imagine that someone around here has tried moving to a FL-1A or FL-299 from a FL-400... hopefully we'll hear from them.

Fyi, the OP here Big O Dave has one of the best early oil filter dissection studies posted on Bitog (linked below). It's complete with clickable pics, and spreadsheet complete with comprehensive specs. Excellent work. Just clicked on the Bosch Premium and back then it's clear to see the Champ construction, looking very similar to current STP's posted here. That includes the unique/odd bypass design. And it answers the question about having the ability to post pics.

Can't say if BOD ever got around to complete dissection with pics of the filters listed here, but 3 months later he did the dissection above.

All that said, as the linked dissection shows much/most of the information has now changed. Example, the 910 and 400 now have an S, silicone adbv.

Sayjac, thanx for that link. I saved it to my favorites files. That must have took a long time for him to complete. Wherever you are BOD, great job!

8 year old thread, and 8 year old filter study. Some data might still be good, some not.
