Virgin 2015 M1-110 Cut Open

Hey all, I came across a rusty Mobil 1 filter, so I figured why not cut it open and share

Nice looking filter other than the rust of course. Do you know if it's sat inside the box? In a humid environment?

All I know is it was in the box, but no apparent moisture damage to the box.

It gets humid in Iowa, and the base plate apparently wasn't treated with any kind of light oil coating like some filters are, like Frams.

That's odd because I've used them for years and they were always sealed in plastic inside the cardboard box.
Was that one just loose in the box unwrapped?

Looks ok but very sloppy glue job and rust on baseplate. I wouldn’t have run that

It’s a great looking filler. Never seen a baseplate rust like that. Somehow it got exposed to a lot of moisture.
Isn’t it an older filter and now purolator is making them?

Yes, it was unwrapped. 3 more came with it, all 3 were unwrapped but excellent condition, no rust. This is interesting, I've used quite a few M1's and never seen one wrapped in plastic, I haven't used one in a handful of years though..

I've seen varying threads on this on BITOG.
They were shrink-wrapped then they weren't.
The M1-301 and M1-208 I used to use aren't available locally to me anymore and both are suffixed with "A" now...
