I've seen this exact thing near the Lawrence Livermore Lab back in the 2nd Gulf War. At the time I though it was a launch of weapon of some type.

i was careful not to say "alien" since it is really hard to know what it is. after all the first test flights of the modern day stealth bomber were conducted in the early 60's and more then likely account for a great deal of "ufo" sightings. but i will say this, if it was a new aircraft/weapon test, why do it during the day and why over a city/busy airport? it just doesn't make sense.

The greatest number of UFO sightings in one area (in US history) was when Hiller tested a helicopter with engines on the blades in the evening. People saw the swirling fire balls and new aliens were coming!

Rocket launches can been seen from hundreds of miles away.
