Oh yeah... Now I remember... The old V8 or V6 New Yorkers had them too. My dad still hates those, because they never ran right and would always cause a "Lean" problem.

Fry's back in the late 90s used to sell some reworked IBM hard drive with jumper resistors across the PCB in the Sacramento store.
