The owners manual for this truck calls for NGK BKR6EY spark plugs for California models as the standard heat range plug ,and BKR5EY as the standard plug for other applications Im assuming.

NGKs website list the BKR6EY as the standard plug across the board as.
Advance Auto parts, and Autozone also list the the BKR6EY as the standard plug as well.
Amsoils website also list the BKR6EY as the standard plug.

Am I missing something?
Did Nissan go back later and change the spec on this plug after this owners manual was printed?
I have already installed the BKR5EY, and Im wondering if I should change them.
Thanks.

BKR5EY is 1 heat range hotter
BKR6EY is standard
BKR7EY is 1 heat range colder

you can call the dealer parts dept and ask them the recommended plug and see if its been updated..

Alot of older japanese vehicles list 3 heat ranges in the owners manual. From what I have seen: the coldest is recommended for constant high speed driving, middle for most of the time, and the hotter for extreme cold outside climate.

You should be fine with the "5" heat range as it is very commonly used on japanese engines. If you hear a rapping noise going up hill under high load then you want to change to the "6" cooler spark plug.

Could it be possible that California's reformulated gas has something to do with it? Just a factor that may be considered. FWIW--Oldtommy
