I ran a K&N on a '01 Dodge 2500 CTD for +/- 135k and the air plumbing behind the filter stayed spotless. I cleaned the filter at 40k intervals and was satisfied with the results.
I recently purchased an '06 Dodge 3500 CTD610 and went to purchase a K&N for it. I found none to be available even though the K&N website lists a part number. I bought an "Airaid" brand knockoff of the K&N but removed after 2 days with a noticable reduction in power/throttle response and fuel mileage. The Airaid appeared to be well built but obviously restricted airflow over the factory filter.
I think I will stick to the replaceable(as opposed to maintainable) for now.
