When I cancelled my mobile service they attempted to extort the disconnection fee out of me even though I'd been a customer for almost 12 years. "Well sir, you auto-renew your commitment every 2 years unless you terminate it in writing." So I refused to pay and told them to kiss my behind. A year or so later I start getting collection calls for the $250 fee and then notice they reported me as a deadbeat to the credit bureaus for refusing to pay it.
If Verizon was the last company on earth with phone/internet service, I still wouldn't do business with them again.
I helped a company build out a datacenter a year ago. They spent about $50 million dollars and bought a whole bunch of fiber connections (OC-3 to OC-48). I specifically spec'ed the location outside of Verizon territory so I wouldn't funnel a penny to those clowns. Never again.
