My car is a 05 Acura TL. 55000 miles 3.2 V6, 4.5Qt oil (but i always put 5 Qt). I live in L.A, planning to go to Vegas this weekened, maintenance minder shows a The reason i want to change the oil after the Vegas trip is just i am lazy, not to save $, i do my oil change anyway. I bought the $18 O'reilly synthetic oil + Mobil 1 filter.
By the way i stick with factory recommended 5W20.
Any thought or suggestion is sincerely welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

Lemonade, I think you're fine to leave it in. That engine won't be working very hard on that trip. Unless the cooling system is marginal in that car, it won't even notice the high ambient temperatures.

Our Civic is back from a SF-Denver-SF trip via Vegas (I joined the trip in Denver). The D17A2 in that car is absolutely gutless anywhere above sea level, so we were running it WOT a lot in the mountains. 4th gear was only useful on level ground or slight downhills. The oil was QSHP 5w30 and it's now 1000 mi past the owner's manual OCI of 5000 mi. It looks/smells fine (not that it means anything).

Your car has a lot more torque, so it won't be taxed as much by the trip.

CHANGE THE OIL!!!!! seriously dude. it takes 20 minutes. and if the OLM says you need to change it, you really need to change it, you really do. especially on acuras and hondas, the OLMs will go for even 10,000miles sometimes. just be safe and change it!!

Lemonade,

Looks like you are off warranty and using a good synthetic. There is no reason to be concerned about going a bit over the OLM guidance.

If you have an extended service plan (AKA Extended warranty), then you should change it to comply with maintenance requirements. That is a bit tinfoil hattish but not a bad idea.

You are fine. As others have said you chose a quality synthetic and this trip should be uneventful.

I plan on going 7500 on my truck, even though the current fill has 1 year and 4500 miles on it. It is filled with M1 Truck and SUV of the 5w30 flavor.
In my Taurus I have Quaker State Torque Power 10w30, a pint of Schaeffer's #132 and 5oz of LC20. I plan on driving that out to 10,000 miles, although it already has 4 months and 5,000 miles on it.

BTW, it is 102 degrees outside today, it has been that way for a couple of weeks. The wonderful thing about it being hot is that you really don't have "cold starts" as the car never really cools off, and you don't have to worry about condensation build up as it's dry as a bone outside.

You are good to go. These other dudes are just BITOG'ers and are extremely pro active in their maintanance.

Either way is okay, flip a coin: head change, tail don't. If it make you feel better, look at the oil on dipstick if it's very dark change it, if it's very light amber keep it and enjoy your gambling trip to the sin city.

Lemonade,

Considering how much synthetic oil is now a days I'd push it a bit and get as much outta what you hav already. PP is a good oil so if you go over a couple hundred miles won't hurt your motor at all. Do your OCI when you get back home. One other item.... why are you using O'Reilly brand synthetic????? Just stick with PP and have less headache.

Wow! thanks for all the input. My car is out of warranty, currently i have 5000 miles on the oil, and it says I look at the owner's manual, Honda doesn't state a different viscosity for my car, this raise another question: "it's fine to run 5W20 in near freezing and Vegas heat temperature?"
I am sorry, so many questions, very eager to learn from you guys.
^_^

1) You are out of warranty.
2) You are using a good Syn.
3) You have a half qt. extra
4) You are going to drive all highway
5) The OLM IS calibrated for dino, and
6) You have 500 or so "extra' miles, anyway.

I would definitely not change it until I got back. I go 7500 on Syns. Any less would be a waste. Just do it later, no sweat!

I alway change out the oil before head to long trip. Check everything under the hood, tires, im about doing 2000+ miles road trip very soon.

I didn't know you only have 5k miles on it. Usually OLM's take it out a lot further. I change my vote. I now vote for you not to change. PP can handle that w/ ease. It'll be a lot of highway miles too.
