Went to LV to meet 2 friends from Germany we haven't seen for 10 yrs...It was great to see them and meet them during their 1st tour of the US, but we got tired of all the glitter and fakeness and abundance of everything in LV after 2 days...

Anyway, here are 2 shots of Vegas at night - as seen from the top of the horribly fake "Eiffel Tower" of Paris Hotel. (Not too bad for a $100 P&S Nikon coolpix):

Nice shots!

And for those of you who think gambling is a good idea- try to imagine what it costs to power all those lights. Just the lights. Where do you think that money comes from? It comes from all those people who came back from Vegas & told(lied to) you about how much they won!

hehe - yeah we didn't do any gambling - mostly just spent time with our friends, going out to eat and bit of sight-seeing, if you can call it that it LV. I also thought that probably several poor villages somewhere in the world could be powered with those lights...for good/basic purposes, that is...

It's a city of waste and indulgence - gets old after a few days.

More like a small country.

You didn't go to see any shows? That's probably the best thing about it - so many in close proximity.

That camera's pretty nice (where's mori?

); night lights and street scenes usually blow out the brights or ignore the shadows. But you can see some side streets with puddles of light from their normal street lights.

From the still cars, I'd say probably 1/15 second or faster, IOW, lots of light, and/or good grainless ISO boost.

....says the guy driving a 2005 BMW, when he already has another car.

How many people could the price of that BMW feed?

I have nothing wrong with indulgence - people deserve rewards for hard work and accomplishment - just don't bother calling others out on it when you are, in a way, just as guilty!

Just tryin' to keep it real, man.

Love Vegas. Fremont Street is always fun. I never stay more than 3 nights. That includes a day trip to a state park or the grand Canyon.

I only got a USED bmw when my other car has neared 160k miles. It hardly takes anything to maintain it right now. I highly doubt what's happening in LV is comparable to me buying the BMW. We try to donate/volunteer and give to the less fortunate whenever we can and help as much as we can, so I think I can securely criticise LV indulgence.

Oh, I agree 100% that what is happening in Vegas is miles away from one BMW...but still, the principle is there - you could have bought a Chevy or Toyota, but you 'indulged' yourself with the BMW.

And, in the same way you have the 'freedom' to buy a BMW, Vegas has the 'freedom' to set itself up as an oasis of lights in the desert...it's part of what makes American..well, 'American'!

I was there about 20 years ago and I thought the same thing

Las Vegas is fun for a 3 or 4 days max. The traffic, high prices for lousy food, and everyone on the take gets to you quickly. A great side trip is Red Rocks Canyon. Only cost $5 to drive through, on a very nice road. Our favorite casino is the remodeled Golden Nugget. It is the only place we ever win. Great assortment of slots. Lots of 1 & 5¢ video poker. Have not been for 2 years because air fares have gone up so much.
