Varnish

Anyone think long highway drives (where the engine is hot for hours at a time) would aid in varnish removal?

A high quality synthetic, circulating for sustained periods of time, at full engine temperature should have a cleaning advantage over shorter, lower temperature trips.

Good idea. Run short intervals and maybe mmo/seafoam/kreen 1000 miles before you plan on changing the oil will clean er' right up.

Good advice, but the addaholics just can't help themselves, they read the snake oil advertising and believe every word. Many of us have dabbled with a few cans of miracle cure in the past, but luckily most of us move on to lead normal lives using pure unadulterated good quality oils.

Wonder if they're related to 9/11 Truthers? "It says right here there was no plane! The Pentagon was hit by a missile!"

But where are the missile pieces? All I see is plane shrapnel. "No it says it right here; it was faked! No plane; they can't lie on the internet." (Replace plane/missile with Slick50/Marvel Mystery junk.)

Advertising?
I'm reading a great many posts of members and their EXPERIENCES,to be honest where can I find mmo/seafoam/kreen advertised. I never actually seen a commercial nor any advertising for any of it.
So again, skyship and his new buddy are speaking from the posterior end.

Try and think of it this way.

MILLIONS of different cars driven by MILLIONS of individual drivers in MILLIONS of different duty cycles (and more)... it provides a nearly infinite number of outcomes.

There is absolutely NO WAY any one oil can solve every issue these differing variables can dish out.

There is a place for additives, it's just the purists who can't see the obvious. Many who decry the testimonial actually point to one if it confirms their bias...

The engine oil companies have responded to the need for additives for older engines and race engines very well. There is now a very good range of High Mileage oils, thick oils like 10/60's, ultra low friction high Moly content oils, classic car and high Zinc content oils available. The new generation of oils will outperform a normal oil plus some can of snake oil and you won't be conducting a chemistry experiment with your own engine in terms of possible side effects.
There are folks who need to buy oil additives, if you can only obtain cheap bulk oil and importing higher quality engine oil is too expensive, then using a can of additives to boost a poor add pack does make sense. That situation is very different to adding a can of snake oil to a top quality engine oil and wrecking the way the chemically balanced add pack functions or causing an unwanted side effect.
Other snake oils appeal to those looking to ignore their engines maintenance manual and their instruction never include a warning that adding solvents or thin oils is a risky business. They fail to warn the user that an oil leak, blocked filter or damaged turbo bearings can result from dissolving sludge and varnish whilst driving around. The snake oil instructions also fail to warn you that you may be invalidating the power train warranty, as you are ignoring a specific warning in almost every handbook, which says, DON'T USE SNAKE OIL ADDITIVES.

Im using that snake oil, MMO right now. I take my truck to redline with it in the sump daily. I have put thousands of miles on my truck with it in the sump. According to you and your self proclaimed expertise it should have thrown a rod years ago.

There goes skyship again on his snake oil rant. Why waste your time typing. No one listens to you.
And what's with the turbo comment again. Haven't you figured out that isn't applicable to most on this forum.
Why you even comment anymore is beyond me. No one puts any stock in your opinion, and most of the time you comment without reading the thread so your advice doesn't even apply.
Give it up. You aren't teaching anyone anything. Other than how to use the ignore function.
I have you on ignore. I toggle your posts to see what new story you have for the forum every few days. I'll try back on the weekend, see if you actually have any data to back up your opinion.

A perfect match.

As a last resort, yes I'd use Kreen or Amsoil Foam or whatever. But too many times additive lovers say "add Kreen" as the first step. They don't give the Mobil 1 High Mileage a chance to do its job (clean the engine).

I would try a diesel oil like Delvac 1300 to see if it would "attract" the sludge/varnish like it attracts and holds soot.
But no additives.
Just use it straight.

Hdeo and mmo work extremely good together. Especially when the recommended grade is a 30w

And on the subject of hdeo being safer: a friend of mine just had to drop the pan on his escort after one fill of rotella t. It broke loose so much hard carbon junk that it clogged the pick up screen and he lost oil pressure. So motor oil isnt always safer than using an additive that will actually disolve the crud

on a related note, I heard MMO was used to aid the destruction of WTC.

There's that exploding engine strawman again...engines not exploding doesn't define improvement.

Looks like Skyship is living "rent free" inside your head. If you truly "ignored" him, you wouldn't have written this.
