Do you drain the oil into a normal oil drain pan or one of the special Valvomax used oil containers?

It looks like with a Valvomax used oil container the container needs to be held at the exact right height so the drain hoses can properly attach to the container.

And depending on the oil filter mounting you may need an oil drain pan anyway. With my PSD although the filter is mounted vertically with mounting base up, when I unscrew the filter some amount of oil flows all over the filter. Need a drain pan. Maybe because I have a pancake adapter on the oil filter mount for the bypass oil filter.

I keep the empty 5 qt oil jugs and just let it go right into the jug. Advance will give you empty ones for free if you ask for them, they empty used oil into a big tank. If it hold more than 5 qts pinch the hose or unscrew it slightly til it stops and switch to another jug.
No funnels or mess just return the jug, you still need a pan for the filter on many cars.

I have a Stahlbus - same idea - oil comes out of the hose.

Which I drain into an old 5 quart jug. Or two. Depending on sump size.

Dump the used oil off at recycling, keep the old empty jug for next time.

I do the same with the Pilot. Ramps make it's high enough and I use an empty 5qt jug from last OCI.

I was looking on Amazon at oil drain pans, the ones you can screw on covers or caps and bring to recycling. Lots of bad reviews. Ones that come with missing or broken caps. Some with cover that covers the drain area but pop off when it's upright and filled with oil (what a mess) and others that leak.

HF sells one that is 8.5 QT horizontal and 18.5 QT vertical. Not sure how one would find it usable for more than 8.5 QT?

I work in the chemical industry. I have access to used containers that are tossed as trash. I acquired a 5 gallon container that is very similar to a Headpak container. It is thick plastic with solid and secure screw caps. You can turn it upside down and shake it and not a drop drips out. I suggest to everyone to get a container like this. I have tried all of the collect and dispose in the same container drain pans. They all suck and all leak. The 5 gallon container can be had for about $20 or so. Worth every cent

Oh I forgot to add that I have a EZ Drain valve on my car. I put the car on ramps and drain the oil directly into this container. Only the oil filter gets drained into a drain pan. So a lot less chance of a mess when only transferring that small amount of oil

Even on ramps, a Honda Fit with a Valvomax is still too low to drain directly into a used 5 quart oil jug. However, a used 4 liter translucent juice container (#2 HDPE) is short enough to fit. Honda Fit only takes 3.5 quarts 0W20, so this works well.

Still using a drain pan for the oil filter. Next time, I’ll try spinning off the oil filter with a red Solo cup.

Any of the drain pans with caps that are hard plastic are suspect.
