We sell this stuff at work and I was a bit curious about it.

I was thinking of putting it in my motor at the 2nd oil change in 500 miles.

It's not the stock motor, it's running higher compression with a large cam, aftermarket heads and intake, bigger bore, longer stroke etc etc.

The camshaft is a flat tappet, and the oil claims to have high ZDDP, which the cam calls for.

I plan on babying it for the first 500 mile cam break in, then I'll be running it a bit hard on the road.

What are you guys' opinions on this oil? Should I run it? Should I run another oil? Or should I just add some Zinc break in fluid at every oil change?

The cam hasn't been broken in yet, but I was planning on using Rotella 15-40 oil, with Lucas break-in additive.

Engine is a SBC 383 Stroker. Cam is a Comp Cams XE284 Hyraulic Flat tappet. Total lift with my rockers is .523

Compression should be somewhere around 10-11:1

What else do you need to know?

And thanks for the welcome

I have some RHS 220cc iron cylinder heads on it, and the motor is in a 91 Camaro, roundabouts 3200 pounds give or take a few.

Sounds like it's gonna be fast. I like HDEO for flat tappets, good bang for buck. But others may chime in with other views. Redline break in additive popular, there is a voa on it here somewhere on this site.

I wouldn't change the rotella usage. I don't think you will get much if any benefit using the VR1, especially if it is a heavier oil. And I feel the GM EOS is way better than anything Lucas

The VR1 conventional is available in 10w30 or 20w50. A 50/50 blend of the two will give a 40-weight. This application doesn't require a 50. I think the 10w30 would be fine.
