Did a quick search and didn't find too much info or opinions on Valvoline synthetic?

Is there a general consensus on this oil? Is it highly regarded like Pennzoil Platinum or loathed like Mobil 1? Somewhere in between?

By the way, this oil would be for a 2005 Honda CR-V and 2002 Honda Accord V6.

If you search around I think you will find that most who are into Valvoline here prefer Maxlife Synthetic to Synpower.

Synpower is an excellent, well formulated oil. The reason it is not popular on this board is because of the price point. It is a grpIII synthetic like PP, but is hardly ever found as cheap as PP is when PP is on sale.

Some people like maxlife more than synpower because of the moly and the guaranteed use of PAO. Maxlife is no better than synpower for everyday usage. The both are good oils.

It's an excellent Group III oil, but is rarely on sale. A lot of guys buy the Pennzoil Platinum for its rebate tickets and BOGO sales.

They had (have still?) the SynPower for 99 cents at Kragen's/Murray's, etc. but unfortunately those stores are regional, and there aren't any in the city I live in. At that price it would be hard to beat, but for a national chain that's easier to find, the PP at AAP is a better choice for me. As far as I know it's still a good oil though. If you can find it for 99 cents at those Kragen's sales, go for it!

Are you looking for a 20 weight for the V? Do they make Maxlife in 20 weight?
Yeah, if you can, go for the Platinum unless you find the Synpower on sale.

I have been trying to fin dout more about the Valvoline SynPower 10w 50 here in Australia.

I'm wondering also (see never been in to Syn oils so dont know) if someone could confirm if it is a PAO or what type it is? AND is there much to be gained or lost from say a G3 to a PAO?

At $5.79 per quart Synpower is a lousy value, esp when I can buy PP for under $4.00 and M1 for $5.99.

I was all over Valv Durablend at $13 for 5 qts + filter. And when I found Valv A/C for $7.50 per 5 pack ($1.50 per qt), I bought up all they had.

If you can get Synpower cheaply, it might be a good choice for you. But if you have to pay full market price, I think there are better options.

Another reason to go with Maxlife Synthetic. Every time I have seen Maxlife Synthetic is is cheaper than the other synthetics, except for house brands.

I believe Valvoline is a sleeper that many of us have shunned due to the marketing. They have R&D facilities that are state of the art. I would not hesitate on using Valvoline in the future. Maybe my next car. LOL.

Attention all shoppers, the BOGO seems to be off and it's replacement IS a sale on SynPower!!!!! $15.94 a gallon. That's roughly $4 a quart.
