Blackstones comments:
BRIAN: What a nice engine you have here! You've got more than 150,000 miles on this Jeep engine,
and it's showing no signs of slowing down. The universal averages column shows typical wear from
this type of engine after 4500 miles on the oil. You ran this oil 4391 miles, and wear matches up well with averages. We think you could run the oil longer than this without a problem, and we'd suggest going to 5500 miles for your next oil change. The TBN read 3.2, still active additive remaining. No moisture, fuel, or antifreeze found. Looking good!

I've always liked this oil because it worked really well in my Volvo 850 Turbo, just as it's working well in your jeep. I'd really like to use it in my Toyota but can't seem to find it in the five gallon jugs anymore.

Looks excellent. I'd give the Synpower 5w40 a run too.
You change your oil too early.
TBN looks like it would be all done by 7.5k. I probably wouldn't go over 6-6.5k without a check. Run it to 5.5k next time.
The oil sale, if in your area, is awesome.

nice... the best part is that the maxlife did just as good and i think is cheaper granted the both are NOT on sale. you could pick and chose.. personally i would go with the maxlife at 5k mile intervals for seal treatment.. i love those inline 6's they are one of the best 6's ever produced.. why jeep dropped them is beyond me. i ran my wrangler to 190k miles with a very minor head gasket leak.. VERY MINOR and it ran ____ good!! i wore that thing out and it was not slowing down.. i only used conventional in it too..

Probably because of the constant Head Gasket issues... didn't they all have that problem, for the most part? Not knocking them, but I've seen an awful lot of HG problems with the 4.0, despite them being great engines.

well at 190k miles i dont expect anything less haha.. i have had two jeeps and no issues with the motor. now tranny, electrical and other nuisences yeah there were a POS.. but ____ good motors! if it were my 4.0 and i changed my oil religiously at 5k miles with that mileage i would go with a maxlife regular or maxlife syn just bc of the seals.. they do weep over time thats just the nature of the beast. plus i overheated mine quite a few times on the outerbanks and in creeks.. all i used was gtx or havoline dino

I've not seen any

I'm sure that there are some. I've just never seen them ..net or otherwise. I've seen the reported casting flaw that opens to the water jacket in the head (top side) that's fixed by epoxying it (or some other method).

The most prevalent destroyer of AMC/DC I6 engines is time and neglect. Most of those that I've seen issues with (blow-by, perhaps a timing chain or two) are in 20+ year old CJ's that have been sitting when they aren't either plowing snow or being brutalized on the trail (or both). Many were/are used as ATV's ..from before there ever was an ATV

they are wonderful motors and its a [censored] shame that chrystler-jeep dropped them.. i abused the [censored] out of mine and it kept going and going and going.. too bad the rest of the jeep parts werent like that.

well i overheated mine a few times running the snot out of it, plust a waterpump went bad one time, a thermstat went bad one time and i got stuck another time.. thats why my head gasket got leaky around 100k miles on up to 175k miles. never leaked alot just a little not too bad. i just wish other parts of the jeep was well built like that motor. i had a 2001 grand cherokee and it was the worst made POS i have ever driven. i sold it and got my current tacoma 4x4 4-door v6 and i LOVE it! you can tell the quality difference 10 fold.
