Valvoline synpower.

Hi all.

i am currently using valvoline synpower 5w30 fe in my 2008 mazda 6 1.8 mzr engine.

recently read a opinion from a guy in here(don,t remember the tread) that valvoline in genneral is poor quality. And to back up his opinion he said no enginemaker used it for factory fill?

am i using a bad oil in my car? are valvoline synpower a low quality oil or are valvoline in genneral a bad oil?

Not at all....Synpower is an excellent oil.
It may not have the long drain capability of some other syns but it may beat them in 'wear protection'.
In other words, I wouldn't hesitate using Synpower but I wouldn't go beyond approx. 8K on an OCI.

Valvoline makes excellent stuff...their A/T fluids are top shelf too, IMO.

Use Valvoline SP with confidence, it's a good product. As far as it not being used in factory fills IMO has more to do with business and who shells out the most cash for contracts, not the quality of the product. Valvoline refused to pay for the dexos license even though three of their oils meet or exceed dexos specs.

I am not an Ashland fan, but if you count diesels, they actually have five that meet it:

Valvoline SP 5w20 and 30 and Durablend 5w30 all meet dexos specs. The Napa synthetic 5w30 also meets dexos specs it is also a Ashland product.

Valvoline is one of the best oils. I use Synpower in my gf`s Mustang. Keep using it,don`t change a thing.

Don't you worry about Valvoline Synpower. I'm using it
now in my 09 saturn Vue which is still under warranty.
I've mostly used Valvoline oil's for 40 years now.

Thanks all. Now i can sleep well again. But when it comes to not being a long drain oil there might still be a problem. The oil does carry the right spec (a5/b5) and shoult therefore be able to go the 20.000 km oci mazdas is running in the EU. But do you think it will be a problem ?

I don't see why Valvoline would not last as long
if it meets the spec. The only way to know is to
get a used oil analysis done.

I don't think it will be a problem. SynPower is an excellent off-the-shelf synthetic.

Valvoline is a quiet,unsung,dependable lube. You never hear about it because nobody is complaining. Bad news travels faster than good.
And the whole factory fill excuse is absurd.
Oil companies tie into a manufacturer and vice versa so they both get the prestige of being associated with each other.
And valvoline has oils that meet every spec out there. No just "meets or exceeds".
People talk about the voa stating the additive package appears weak however there is very rarely a used oil analysis that stands out as a total fail.
I don't buy it unless its on rollback and because I'm a sopus guy,but I have used it in occasion with nothing bad to report.

I agree, I've ran Durablend and Valvoline conventional in my 2001 monte carlo for a long time. Just recently switched to Mobil Super 5000 because the price point is so good.
