I did a search and couldnt find anything. this is probably one of the few oils ive never tried. ive used edge, rp, mobil ep, pp, pu, and pretty much every over the counter syn out there. I never tried valvoline syn. what do you guys think of it. I thought I saw somewhere online a side by side for like 8 diff synthetics and valvoline synpower scoring terrible in everything. opinions and facts much appretiated :)

I'd have no qualms using it in my vehicle. From what I've seen it performs rather well in tests, but I'm no expert by any stretch.

As for a test showing many different types of oils, the only one like that that I remember is one by Amsoil which compared a bunch of oils and SynPower actually preformed rather well across the board compared to the other oils tested.

I have a bunch here for my next few OC. At least the 30 weights meet ACEA A5, the extended drain spec.

imo, i think synpower is one of the better oils out there.

Check out the uoa, nothing but stellar results.

it was the amsoil testing that made me try synpower, now i'm hooked.

Thats EXACTLY why I buy Synpower too. Across the board, according to Amsoil, Synpower produced one of the best overall results. Synpower rocks!

whattttttt im looking at the amoil test and synpowers like number five in almost every test? Mobil 1 killed it and was number two in almost every test were you guys looking at a older test maybe? im looking from the amsoil site and it makes valvoline look like garbage?

The wear part of the test showed synpower doing quite well, actually the same as amsoil.

Four Ball wear test results. (i know i know)

Amsoil - 0.35
Synpower - 0.35
Mobil 1 - 0.44

I can't imagine how much of a difference this makes, im no expert but im assuming thats the part of the test that steers people.

Synpower is a fine oil. The question is: "Why wouldn't it be?" I've never used it, but probably will try it once I deplete my current stash...

I might be wrong but I think Formula Shell dino has a better add pack. I just will not pay for a syn that has almost no boron, moly, cal. me, I think it is a rip off oil. If you believe the Amsoil test well, never mind.

I just take it with a grain of salt, the add pack isn't stellar but it returns good results.

I don't use synpower, im a PP guy. FS looks good i agree.

I think you are forgetting something. used oil analysis on synpower always look GREAT. A $20 used oil analysis is not going to show everything that is going on. Not even close. Valvoline is a good company, that makes good products. There is nothing wrong with synpower, and I plan on using either it or XL my next change.

my engine is going to sludge up and then blow up because synpower contains no calcium and moly

Valvoline is the 2nd most unfairly disrespected brand here. RP is a solid #1.

Probably because Synpower was never really that good of a synthetic until the last 2 years or so.

Is that so ?

I bought 6 cases of Synpower about 2 years ago from Kragen for less than $1/qt. I did not use any yet so I don't know how it compares with PP. I do like PP a lot, specially it's cheaper than M1.

My opinion is I wouldn't buy it. While I'm not going to dig up the VOA's links, I believe I remember them to be fairly weak in terms of additives for the price.

With similarly priced syn's out there like M1 and PP, I couldn't bring myself to run a (IMO) questionable quality oil just for the sake of trying it.

If it was given to me or bought dirt cheap, that's a different story. But if I were to plunk down my own cash on a regularly priced oil it would be for one of the above syn's or dino like Formula Shell or Pennzoil conventional.
