Syn oil is really not needed for 6 month 5,000 mile oil changes it really is not what syn oil is for.
cars under warranty , if I wish to use a low priced synthetic , I will . OIL POLICE ?

Do you change out your tires every 5,000 miles as well?

He probably would if he had to for warranty purposes. If I find synthetic on sale with buy 1 get 1 or better, it usually ends up being about the same price as regularly priced conventional. I don't see why he should put in conventional just because he runs 5k ocis if he could get synthetic for a low price.

thanks , do oil changes at home and take oil to nearby dealership to be recycled . So , not a total waste .

I also use synthetic and have to live with 5k/6mon OCI because of Toyota warranty. Two reasons I am going with synthetic....#1 I want the best and piece of mind and #2 the wife drives the 4-Runner to work and back...a short drive, which I understand is pretty darn hard on the oil and engine.

Gotta admit though.....I have not used Valvoline yet, but am tempted because of price. So far, I have only had M1 and PP in my 4-Runner.

The blends looked just as good at the "full synthetics"

I'd go back to MC 5W-20 (or any 20W for that matter). Wear numbers were IDENTICAL to the 30W oils, but probably a bit better fuel mileage.

Love the K-series motors... Honda hit a home run with them

now using SHELL Full Synthetic in a 5w-30 for both '08 YARIS . Bought 3 cases ( 6 qts. ) for less than $80 ( including tax ) at local BJs Wholesale with the free temporary membership that arrives in the mail . Less than $4.50 per quart with tax .

Looks like this awesome wearing motor could run anything and get good wear numbers.

How about trying baby oil or suntan oil next time?

VALVOLINE Synpower is still $19.99 for the 5 quart jug at local WAL-MART . While others are $24 and up .

I know. I just a jug my Wal-Mart. Going into my Ecotec in about 200 miles. Will report at the end of the OLM.

With a 2.5 TBN, I'd be willing to bet the MC would have made it to 10k miles. At half the price of Synpower, makes a lot of sense.....

Dumb question: Was the Motorcraft 5W-20 in your chart semi-synthetic?

I've got to say that I'm very impressed with all the numbers, but the Motorcraft stands out (if it was the semi-syn). This semi-syn 5W-20 is $13 at my local wally world for the 5 quart jug.

I'm really thinking about going to the Motorcraft 5W-20 for my Tundra when I run out of Amsoil ASM...

thanks,
ben
