Valvoline Syn Power

I have recently bought about 20 quarts of the Valvoline Syn power 5w30 from AAP for the BOGO. I had previously bought another 30-40 quarts last time it was BOGO. What is the general consensus on the board about this oil. I have yet to have a used oil analysis on this car (2006 Mustang GT 45,000 miles). It has has everything from Mobil 1 to RP in it. All have been synthetic, oil changes usually around 5000 miles. There really isn't a large amount of used oil analysis on this oil. I saw an awesome used oil analysis on a Crown Vic with synpower 5w20 and since these engines are similar in materials used to contructe them, I figured that the synpower would be a good choice.

Perfectly fine oil for 5000 mile changes, great protection and normal wear patterns with it. It's not "stout" like amsoil, but it's very good. I have a stash of it too, and when I finally run out I'm going to switch to Amsoil since the synpower is very difficult for me to find.

The 5w-40 better be "stout" to claim the specs it does.

well PP isn't "stout" and it gives great protection and has an awesome track record.

Yes the PP is stout and starts out with tbn greater than 10, which is great for a retail oil, and probably is part of the reason this oil can go so many miles. Synpower (5w30) starts out with tbn only about 7. That's why I run it no more than 7-8k miles. PP is my first choice with the BOGO for this reason.

i know i'm itching to get Synpower in my Explorer once i hit the mark to change out the durablend.

i had planned to run PP, but if the Synpower runs well i may stick with it.

It meets GM4718m specs for use in Corvettes. Only a handful of oils do. (Castrol Syntec doesn't, none of the Conoco Phillips oils do, Havoline Syn doesn't). So to me, that says volumes. I'm running it in my '06 Vette right now. That BOGO at AAP is a great deal on a quality product.

Agree, I think Synpower is an underrated oil. I think PP/M1/Synpower are the best 3 OTC synthetic oils.

The 5w30 is A3/B3 rated last I checked, so it is a robust oil. Most other 30 weight oils that met these specs have thinned down their 30 weights for fuel economy and can no longer meet it.

I very much wish I could get some 5W-40 on BOGO for the summer, but I know that's not going to happen. 6 quarts from NAPA is going to run me over $40 - ouch!
