Valvoline is conservative. I think their QL business model keeps them from suggesting non-OEM oil drain recommendations.

How could it meet the OEM specs on the bottle if it couldn't do the OEM recommend oil change intervals?

? They do recommend following owner's manual AFAIK. There was a video of them saying that actually. I'll see if I can find it.

This is on Valvoline's website in the Q&A section for Valvoline Restore and Protect. I'd think all of their oils will meet the OEM's recommend OCIs, why wouldn't they?

Kind of odd, we have gone from the Carburetor Era with the so-called Fuel Dilution Issues, which we did not know about. Then we went to the Fuel Injection era, and now we have DI that shows fuel dilutions issues. I realize the oils and whatever gas we had back in the day are different, this is back in the 1960's. We now have an oil that can really keep things clean, yet it is not a long drain oil.

Zee0Six, what I quoted you on kind of woke me up, it made me realize something, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You cannot just use the cheapest oil and expect your engine to last a long time with no issues. The price difference between Valvoline Restore and Protect and the cheapest oil is not much when you look at a 5-quart jug of oil.

With DI, we are going to shorter OCI's, at least for Bitoger's.

I've progressed to the 0 mile and/or 1 day OCI. So far this year, I've done zero miles and changed my oil 5 times.

Yeah, I have known that for a long time - but don’t expect the gen pop will know that … At least a dealership is reasonable.
(Mine says at 20% OLM, book a service) …
People often mock the companies willing to put mileage on the jug - but personally I think it takes some level of confidence in your own product/testing to do that. I’m never going to use that 20k to the fullest - but if I decide to run 8k-10k OCI’s - it will never be Valvoline.

I am with you on this. I would feel more comfortable knowing I am doing half of what the bottle says it can last. But then, if my OCI is only 5K, then an oil that says 20K might be on the wrong side of the trade off

True, but the EP does not cost much more with the name brands …

13 months are juast about 2 oil changes.

Allot of the dirty engines are I4 - easier to deal with than a boxer or even a V6/8. You can do 1-2-3: piston soak>>EC30>>Valvoline Restore and Protect and it may not take 20k to fix the oil burning or whatever …
Then if you are tired of 5K OCI’s - the new Mobil 1 might be at Walmart for $30 by then …
