Your BIL won't find Valvoline Restore and Protect xW-40 in North America.
I didn’t know of such a drain plug. I cleaned it off and added a crush washer. After starting the car, I looked to ensure no leakage, but didn’t inspect it closely. Should I be concerned? I did make sure it was snug and crushed while tightening. That drain plug has a built-in damaged O-ring, no need for a crush ring washer if it was in usable condition. Time to order a new O-ringed drain plug.
This is sad news. What is the recommendation, just go with 5w-30 all the way?Your BIL won't find Valvoline Restore and Protect xW-40 in North America.
The proper way to fix an oil consumption problem in a 2007 Camry is to replace the pistons and rings with redesigned parts. The original pistons and rings were poorly designed from the factory. Toyota issued a TSB and a Warranty Enhancement Program (ZE7) to cover the replacement of pistons and rings for eligible vehicles. This is sad news. Oh darn, I was going to make a short trip down to TJ.Australia only unfortunately it seems.
If we had a BITOGER from Australia, would he be able to bring the oil into the West Coast and give it to us? Depending on how many of us want the 10W-40 it might be better to bring it in on a Ship! A few of us wanting the 10W-40, fly over and meet us on the West Coast. We have to find a way to get at least a 5-quart jug of this stuff so we can get a VOA! LOLAustralia only unfortunately it seems.
No argument on that. So far, 5w-30 has worked on subsiding the consumption on DW's 07 Rav4. I'm hoping it's gonna work on BIL's 07 Camry. I'm just interested in a heavier Valvoline Restore and Protect because of what he previously used. It's trial and trail at this point. Since Valvoline Restore and Protect 10w-40 is not available, and since there's no good substitute, 5w-30 it is, all the way.The proper way to fix an oil consumption problem in a 2007 Camry is to replace the pistons and rings with redesigned parts. No oil on Earth can fix poor parts design or defective parts.
Was his Camry covered by the TSB and you guys missed it? (not victim-blaming, just curious). I think there's a shot Valvoline Restore and Protect could clean it up. I believe I've read some reports of some success in the 2AZ.No argument on that. So far, 5w-30 has worked on subsiding the consumption on DW's 07 Rav4. I'm hoping it's gonna work on BIL's 07 Camry. The only shot he has at this point, keep using Valvoline Restore and Protect and see what happens.. I think there's a shot Valvoline Restore and Protect could clean it up.
That depends on a lot of things, everyone's situation is not the same.. I believe I've read some reports of some success in the 2AZ.
Was this guy the original owner of this car that has issues? Was his Camry covered by the TSB and you guys missed it?
Well, not the only shot. Could get the pistons re-ringed.The only shot he has at this point, keep using Valvoline Restore and Protect and see what happens.

Camry was bought used. For the Rav4, we are original owner, did not meet their qualification. The oil consumption was within their tolerance. Was his Camry covered by the TSB and you guys missed it? Low hanging fruit. The latter is probably not worth it.Well, not the only shot. Could get the pistons re-ringed.
You did not mention that in the post I quoted you in, let's give Valvoline Restore and Protect a shot, at least that is what you said in the post that I quoted you in! How much does this so-called piston re ringed job cost?Well, not the only shot. Could get the pistons re-ringed.
I think we're just talking past each other at this point. I was just pointing that out for completeness' sake. I agree that it may not be worth it. You would have to get a quote and see if it made financial sense. Often, even big jobs on a car in otherwise good shape are worth it.You did not mention that in the post I quoted you in, let's give Valvoline Restore and Protect a shot, at least that is what you said in the post that I quoted you in! It was that bad piston/ring design (think it was inadequate scraper ring drain holes in the ring groove) that causes them to gum up and get stick in the ring groove. It's possible that running Valvoline Restore and Protect could clean those oil drain holes in the pistons and free up the rings. Only one way to find out ... just run Valvoline Restore and Protect all the time in that engine and see if the oil consumption goes down. The proper way to fix an oil consumption problem in a 2007 Camry is to replace the pistons and rings with redesigned parts.
