Now that I've posted the Valvoline Euro 5w30 xliii, what do you see about esp better than that? The approvals of the xl iii seem pretty darn good.

It looks great! Appears very similar to ESP 5w30. I use the ESP 0w30 because it still uses the ester formula and I’m hoping it keeps pistons clean. And it’s at my local Wally.
I do look forward to your results with the Valvoline xliii!!

Currently use Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 and engines I care for as they like it . I’ve always used Mobil 1 , Valvoline or SOPUS synthetic 5W30 oils at 3K to 4K mile / 6 month OCI’s , so maybe I’ll only need 2 or 3 Valvoline Restore and Protect OCI’s to ensure my engines are clean , then switch back to Mobil 1 ESP 0w30.
For my oil consumption it took 3 oci’s before I started seeing an improvement. I’d recommend 4 oci’s minimum just like Valvoline recommends.
I have noticed there is of course some confusion about the interval for how long to run Valvoline Restore and Protect and it got me thinking
If Valvoline Restore and Protect had stated to run the oil for 3000 miles or 4000 miles then the general public would treat it more as a “engine treatment” and not a proper oil
This would of course generate way less sales as oils that are in the same price range are all touted to hit 10k miles at the minimum
More on, if Valvoline Restore and Protect says to do 10k miles then once again that isn’t a safe comment as there could be a heavy fuel diluted engine that runs it to 10k and then causes engine damage etc
That is why it is most safe and why also Valvoline Restore and Protect formulated this engine oil to be “follow manufacturer oil change intervals” as they want it to compete with normal drain intervals as it’s competitors but also be able to clean and restore at the same time
Maybe this was discussed already and of course I don’t have any facts just making an educated guess. So for anyone wondering how long to run Valvoline Restore and Protect, run it for how long YOU want to since Valvoline definelty isn’t going to come out to say to run it for 3k miles or 4K miles. They formulated this oil to run just as long as the others. (I tbh was in this group too but as I thought about I know now that I can run it for whatever interval)

Could you share the OCI lengths you’ve ran so far?
5k oci’s. 19k miles total so far.

I’m planning on using it this fall for a similar approach of 5k mile intervals; and will be patient as their claims suggest and verified by yourself. I have 340k miles on this Honda so it could take longer
Yes. I almost gave up to be honest. No oil consumption change at all for 2 oci’s. What was the oil burning rate before the Valvoline Restore and Protect use was started? I'd think if it was really burning a lot due to stuck rings, then the longer it will take to free them up with a mild cleaner like Valvoline Restore and Protect.
Just over 1 qt per 2k miles. Almost 3 qts in a full 5k oci, 5 qt sump.

It isn’t confusing at all. Everybody says follow manufacturer’s recommendations. That’s the default answer.
That gives me hope as my 07 Fit is at around half that rate; 1 Qt / 4k miles.

Which Honda motor? Any concerns to running EC30 with Valvoline Restore and Protect ?
Could have two different chemistries trying to accomplish similar things; which has unknown effects on its behavior as no one has tested them in a controlled setting. HPL has said their oils clean better than the EC.
So, I view the EC additive as something to add near the end of an OCI on a run of the mill generic synthetic OTS at Walmart etc. HPL has suggests its use prior to converting to their fully formulated PCMO as a prep.
The possible canceling effect of running two different types of cleaners at the same time; are just as likely as improving each other during concurrent use.
Why not try Valvoline Restore and Protect on its own and then consider EC if you don’t get the results you are looking for?
