I guess at the end of the day it really doesn’t matter what they say. I will be running it for at least three OCIs for a total of around 20,000 miles give or take.
Valvoline Restore and Protect removes it's own deposits as they are deposited. We are in agreement.
Like I said earlier ... Valvoline Restore and Protect cleans up what's already there ("Restore") and the "removes it's own deposits" as you say: ie it keeps it clean by preventing deposits (the "Protect" part). Mobil 1 may do the "Protect" part by not letting deposits form in an already clean engine but it's not claimed to clean existing deposits and "Restore" like Valvoline Restore and Protect is claimed to do.
So back to my original comment, Mobil 1 may keep a clean engine clean, but it has no claim that it cleans existing deposits in a dirty engine like Valvoline claims with Valvoline Restore and Protect.

Most manufacturers have had intervals of at least 7500 miles for some time now (barring shorter intervals for extreme driving conditions). I’m willing to bet valvoline took this into consideration and their recommendation will likely fall in the 30-40k interval for full cleanup.

This is why Valvoline should give an OCI then. By them saying to follow their manufacturer guidelines and/or follow the OLM, it opens up the possibility of people running this oil for 10k or more when it really should not be run that long (especially on the first interval)And then when they wreck their engine blame Valvoline. Good point, I haven't used the product yet. I'm following it here and I'm hoping for a 5W40 or Euro XW30 to be honest. I guess a little common sense should apply then. Extended OCIs should be avoided when cleaning an engine. OTOH common sense might not be so common anymore.

The FAQ on the Valvoline site now says it takes 4 OR MORE CONSECUTIVE oil changes to clean your engine 100% which I take to be marketing speak for "Use Valvoline Restore and Protect and never stop if you want a clean engine".
I think we should stop taking Valvolines reference to 4 OCIs so literally.
Their messaging has changed, just like they originally said they were concerned about clogging filters if Valvoline Restore and Protect did too good a job too fast. Now they say deposits removed by Valvoline Restore and Protect are dissolved and stay suspended in the oil and do NOT affect the filter like. (Also in the FAQ)

This is my beef with a lot of YouTube videos. I don’t need to watch a 45 minute video of someone changing their oil or cutting open a filter. I realize that they want longer videos to get paid but I think a lot of people lose interest and shut it off early if it’s too long winded. A lot of the videos I watch out there could easily be condensed into 15 minutes.
From the first time I've heard of Valvoline Restore and Protect it has always been four, normal OCI, MINIMUM. I have seen many people (posts) either disregarding this or just being ignorant (not reading).
Same here, I’ve never been confused. I also believe it was covered in the LSJR vid at the Valvoline lab.

The confusion comes from the fact that they haven’t really defined what that OCI is. As I have already said, there is a huge difference between four 3000 mile runs and four 10,000 mile runs.
Specifically:
