Valvoline Restore and Protect

Tried Valvoline Restore and Protect in 0w20 for my first oil change with it. Oil is BLACK at 50% on the MM on my Honda. Might bump it up to 5w30 when I change my oil this week. Honda 1.5T.

was impressed with how smooth and quiet it was when i first changed my oil with it. It's not so smooth and quiet anymore. Time for an oil change. yea yea i know i need a used oil analysis. Think I got about 4-4.5K miles on the oil now. need to double check my service history i wrote down in my manual.

I checked my regular WM last week and finally the 5w-30 was fully stocked again. Maybe I swung by on truck day with fresh stock?

There’s always the chance of something going wrong with a delivery order. Leaks, wrong item, etc. so I prefer in store if possible; as I go by there for work often.

Would definitely bump up to 5W-30. No question. Lotta fuel in that oil.

Valvoline Restore and Protect cleaned so good, a leakage developed on the left side of the engine block, near the belt area. It’s almost time for OC 2. I’ll just let it run low then do a change. I’ll also try to clean the area up. During #2, I’ll take it to my mechanic guy and see if he can detect the trouble spot.

A key point I like about Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30 is the HTHS 3.2 number which is just below the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 3.5 number I was using before . That 3.2 HTHS number could very well be a good sweet spot for a number of drivers from mixed driving to all highway miles and most everything in between while still being considered a resource conserving oil . I like the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 oil as well but with the higher HTHS of at least 3.5 I believe there was a bit more drag or cushioning on the engine than with lower HTHS number 5W30 oils .

Hopefully by the time I use up my Pennzoil Ultra stock (3 jugs left), there are sales and rebates for the Valvoline Restore and Protect in Canada.

Fear not, Canadian Tire puts it on sale quite often. It was just on sale last week for $42.99

Blew my engine after switching from BMW LL01 oil (Castrol EURO 5W-30) to Valvoline Restore and Protect in My BMW N52 religious oil changes albeit following the close to factory 10k. Rod bearing 1 spun. 151,000 miles. I was warned that this oil should not be used in my engine as it lacked appropriate zinc from these decades old engine design. I wish you luck. I was 2k into the Valvoline Restore and Protect cleaning process. I have some great tear down videos on YouTube man do I wish that gold glitter in the oil was gold and not my #1 bearing.

How can you be sure it was the oil that caused the failure?

Zinc has nothing to do with rod bearing protection….

Famous for journal bearing failures. Was it coincidental, or really caused by the oil being used? Were you using a 5W-30 or 5W-40 before? As mentioned, journal bearings are protected by the HTHS viscosity because they operate in full hydrodynamic lubrication 99+% of the time.

Still on cycle #1, I took the RAV4 (2AZ-FE) to let my mechanic take a look. He said the leak is from the upper part of the timing chain cover. $750 to do the work with no guarantees that this is going to work.

I’m 500 miles or 1/4 quart away from OC#2.

Get a new mechanic, lol. Does he think it's something beside the gasket, so says that? Anyone can say "no guarantee" on any repair just to cover any incompetence.
