Valvoline Restore and Protect Euro

I believe that would most likely be the case, "recommended for" only.

I think most of us that have Higher mileage Euro cars trust Valvoline enough to run it regardless of an actual approval. Valvoline doesn’t really make any bad products.

Just bought two jugs (10 Liters) of the 5w-40 wich is recomended for BMW-LL04, MB229.51, VW 505.01 and Porsche A40.
While it´s no offcial approvals, i trust Valvoline when the say "Recommended for...".
I am happy that it finnaly arrived here and in the proper 5w-40 viscositiy range wich is hugely popular here.

What are you guys in Germany using in your BMW B58s, the 5W40 oil you speak of?

It may be suitable. But it's going to be a hard sell to most VW/Audi/Porsche/BMW/MB owners without seeing any "Approved", or at the very minimum "Meets" to these Euro manufacturer specs. I won't put it in any of my Euro engines without this.

Your question implies that there is really only one function of motor oil that matters - how well it cleans.

The opposite, keeping things clean.

European specifications put emphasis on low SAPS, but also put a very healthy dose of phosphorus and zinc for wear protection.

The Phos and Zinc statement.

Some Euro oils, such as Mobil 1 ESP, use so much that they do not meet SN, SP or SQ specs.

As long as the engine is not burning oil, no big deal.

BMW puts a lot of emphasis on HT/HS, which is also an indicator of wear.

Made in the Netherlands. The german fineprint clearly states that this oil is made of Hydrocrack base oil. No markting Bla-Bla.

Does anyone know why the 5w-40 would not be “recommended for” vehicles which call for VW 502.00?

Because it's under the chemical limit of min.1% SA ... min.P content of 900ppm. and min.TBN of 10mgKOH/g that 502.00 demands.Probably for similar reasons they have not listed it as MB 229.5 "recommended". This cautious approach by Valvoline is commendable (other blenders would have shamelessly listed two dozens of "satisfied" OEM specs).

2022 x3 30i only at 40k so no need to use it in that yet.

Being Mid/Low SAPS makes sense as it's designed to go in engines that are burning oil and killing their cats.
It is what it is and it's not something else. If it's not what you want it to be

Why would I define it? It's very easy to look this up yourself, should be simple to understand. Are you implying something else?
