How does Valvoline Premium Blue rank against Shell Rotella, Chevron Delo, Mobil Delvac. etc.?

Autozone is currently having a sale on Prem. Blue, buy two, get one free. I always looking for deals on oil, but never tried Valvoline PB. Pros? Cons?
Any inputs, opinions would appreciated.

Buy 2 get 1 free??!!!!! Load up on that stuff man!!!! I am now using it in my Duramax, and I always used it in my Cummins a few years ago and it was the best Dino out there in my opinion. Get you some boy!!!!!!!! I think I am a little drunk......

The '02 7.3 PSD didn't like VPB all that much.

In the 7.3, I'd say Valvoline PB is about equal to Rotella, but below Delo and Delvac.

If the big 3 (Delo, Delvac, Rotella) and the red-headed step-kids (Premium Blue, Tection Extra, Long Life Gold and such) were all priced within $.50 of each other, then the debate of UOAs or add-packs might have merit.

But these are all great oils. And when you find such good quality oils on sale, and you're not brand loyal, you can't ignore the savings to be found. I've always been partial to Rotella, but when Delvac 1300 went on sale last fall for $10/gallon, PLUS the $3 rebate, I coudn't pass up that deal. Delvac for $7/gallon beats all the others at regular shelf prices, on a performance/dollar ratio.

In general, getting any brand name HDEO priced at 3 for 2 trumps the minute differences in VOAs or UOAs.

That is my opinion; feel free to call me a heretic now.

Bambam -

I am a BITOG addict, and believe in the 12 steps to lubricant recovery. In step one, a hereby admit I have an oil problem. I am an oil-'ho. I have more oil in the garage than I can ever consume in one year's time. I see a good oil on sale and I buy it, often, by the gallon(s). I have been known to change oil for other people (family & friends) just to turn stock over and make room for more. Geez - I bought the Delvac 15w40, and I have no idea yet what I'm even going to put it in! I plan to run Rotella CJ-4 10w30 in the Dmax, Kubota, Scag mower, and Mustang. And probably the Goldwing. That is, after my last 2 gallons of CI-4 10w30 are gone. Problem is, I bought 7 gallons of new CJ-4 Rotella just last fall!

The complete disregard ExonMobil has shown for my fiscal and physical inventory status is clear when they have the audacity to offer Delvac 1300 for $7/gallon. How can they expect me to pass that up? They are the "dealer" to my "addiction".

My "fleet" is:
2006 Dmax truck
2006 Goldwing
2005 Kutota tractor
1997 Taurus
1995 Villager van
1966 Mustang convertible
and a multitide of sundry fossil-fuel'd items like a ZTR, roto tiller, and etc.

That is in no way a total list of what I've had in the past. When I wored at Ford (the 1990's) the money was great, and the cars/trucks/motorcycle/boats/ATVs were constantly cycling through the Newton household. If it's powered by dinosaurs, I own(d) it.

I know; shameless.

Back on topic, I suspect whatever the OP (njohnson) is going to put the Premium Blue in, will survice just fine, as long as it's a lubricant selection appropriate for the OEM specs of the engine.

My lord man, you need help. Lets see, what can I do to help you. I could take the 06 Dmax truck and 66 Mustang off you hands. That would free you up some.

Johnny, you are a true friend, with an offer like that. I suppose you'd likely take the CJ-4 Rotella, too. I mean, if you're going to help, don't just stop at the vehicles. Make me go cold turkey!

P.S. - I assume you'll want some of the group III stock as well: PP, Synpower, and QS Torque Power too ...

I would not want your withdrawals to be hard on you, so you could keep the Synpower and QS Torque Power.

I do believe it is time for an intervention at Dave's house.....for Dave's sake of course. We just want you to be well Dave......
