If both were the same price, which would you pick. Which has the better base stock and better additives in the 5W-30 flavor?

If both were same price I would go Valvoline MaxLife. Awesome oil. If I had a brand new car I would go Pennzoil, a very, very good oil. Only go Maxlife if you have at least 60000 miles. I don't think it really matters a ton. Both are excellent oils. In the Winter time I would go Pennzoil.

doesnt matter if you have 60000000 miles or 6, you can use maxlife whenever you would like. Email Ashland and ask, I did.
-only designed for older motors cause of the extra detergents and the seal additives, but is safe in newer motors and rebuilt ones

Makes sense. I about to do my next oil change in a couple of weeks and I wanted to use MC 5000 5w-30 again, but I think that I'm going to go with Valvoline ML 5w-30. The mileage on my car is in the signature. I'm going to switch from supetech oil filters to advanced total grip since it's made my purolator.

S_F You sound so nerdy

I just use Pennzoil

Can someone explain why not use Pennzoil High Mile oil? Isn't it just basically yellow bottle Pennzoil with a few more additives thrown in? I hear people rave about Pennzoil, but I don't know that I have ever heard PZ HM mentioned. What gives?

How about the Pennzoil SUV, Truck & Minivan motor oil?

From what I've heard, it has more additives than the yellow bottle and is NOT a high mileage oil with seal swelling additives. I would assume this oil is even better than the yellow bottle.

Maybe Johnny can pitch in.

They have them at my AAP here. I went by there yesterday as asked the clerk to pull up the oil filters for my Q45. The advance total grip was $2.68 (5) in stock and the purolator premium plus was $3.80. That's great because the supertech was only $2.42 so I'll spend the extra cents to get a better filter. I asked him that I heard a rumor that they were going to stop selling them and he told me "no they are not."

I saw a post once where they had the ATG filter cut open but I can't find it anymore. It was identical to the purolator premium plus.

Isn't the maxlife a blend? I could of swore it was primarily grp I, with dash of PAO. The final product is most likely a grp II+ or so, but that may change your oppinions.

I personally have used both...(Pennzoil High Mileage and Valvoline Maxlife). I used them in a Chevrolet Suburban. The Pennzoil HM was definately the smoother running oil. It also quieted down engine noise much more than the Maxlife. A lot of people will probably say you can't notice things like these, but it was a very noticeable difference in this vehicle. It has approximately 140,000 miles presently. I have Maxlife in it right now, but will be going back to Pennzoil on the next oil change.

Well you're lucky. They are no longer available down here and although some people said they were simply behind the counter now it didnt even pop up in the computer when I asked at the nearest store.
