Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic Vs. Maxlife Syn Blend

Also, FYI, MLS has not officially passed the VW/BMW specs. Valvoline *recommends* it for vehicles needing these specs. The tech I spoke to at Valvoline said they were only willing to spend the money to get the official approvals for Synpower 5w-40 but that he is absolutely certain MLS would pass the tests because it is formulated with the same basic chemistry as the 5w-40 synpower (with some adjustments made for high mileage vehicles).

I will be running it in my motorhome because it only has 15,000 miles on it and I want to keep it clean and protected. My older vehicles will run regular Maxlife.

Those are some good HTHS numbers. I figured they had to be at least 3.5 or better. Sounds like a good plan you got there TallPaul. I think I am going to switch my girlfriends Avenger to VMLB and my Bimmer to VMLS. I will keep you guys posted on how things go and I will also post an initial VOA on at least the VMLS. Thanks for everyone's input!

Based on my study I'm fairly confident that the SynPower 5W40 is PAO based, like the 20W50. Maxlife Synth spec's (A3, LL-04, VW, MB 299.3/.5) and Noack make me believe the Val. Tech's comment that it's the same base as 5W40.

This puts this in the same class as M1 "0W40 European" and 5W40 SynPower. And a _W30...Wow.

I should get a turbo to run this stuff.

A long time ago the Synpower 5w-40 was PAO based but has since been GIII probably for at least the last 5 years. There could be a percentage PAO but certainly not PAO based.

Protect better against what? How do you drive? What engine? How often do you change the oil? What color is the car?
all these and more determine what oil is "best" for your car.

Actually I don't care if there is PAO in this stuff or not. Meeting spec's that are important is what I care about.

The M1 10w30HM is definitely a sleeper oil. Very nice specs, and look at the pour point. It probably has a big slug of PAO if one is concerned.

The Maxlife Syn as well as QS Syn 10w30 are some other nice sleeper oils. Finally starting to see more 30 wt. oils meeting A3, and they're found easily. No more hunting for green elixir at The 'Zone.

Using Maxlife synthetic right now, in a 174k mile engine - was using the regular Maxlife last winter, but this truck sheared the 10w30 down to a 20wt within 3k miles.

So, I went back to the Rotella synthetic 5w-40, until I realized the synthetic version of Maxlife is slightly thicker (then the regular) and has the A3 reading - hopefully it doesn't thin out as fast.

We'll see, currently have 1k miles on this 5w30 synthetic fill.
