7.6! Maybe Dr. No should look on the website and post a link to the TBN on this oil. NOT LISTED. But then lazy is as lazy does.....

Thanks, good help is hard to find these days.

4-27-06 product data sheet for SM Maxlife Syn:

100C vis is 11.8 for both grades (5w30 and 10w30)
NOACK % 10 fo 5w30 and 8.7 for 10w30
TBN is 7 for both grades
VI 154 for 5w30 and 160 for 10w30
moly 280 ppm both grades

Looks pretty robust although that TBN looks alittle low. Id like to go six months or 7500 miles on this oil, would it be worth it to add some LC? Thanks again for the help.

Night owl, we will meet again.

Thanks Mudcat:

Here is my liste revised to the effective 9-12-07 sheet:

100C vis is 11.7 for both grades (5w30 and 10w30)
NOACK % 10 fo 5w30 and 8 for 10w30
TBN is 8.5 for both grades
VI 162 for 5w30 and 152 for 10w30
moly 280 ppm both grades

So, TBN is much better and NOACK improved on 10w30.

Check date code on bottles to be sure you get this latest formulation. Date codes start with a letter for the month, then numbers. Example,

H257... (can't remember rest of code, but first 4 places are what matters) is August (H) 25, 2007.

That there is a bad ---- oil!!! The cold cranking and MRV specs are freakin awesome too. If you wanted a hefty 10w-30 that could handle pretty extreme cold and still be on the thick side at operating temps, the 10w-30 will do it.

A3 rated too! Should do 7500 OCI easy. I'm going for 8-10k in my Mom's '92 commuter Nissan. Sounds easy, but it only holds 3.5qts and has a timing chain.

Durango, sometimes you can find the ML Syn at certain Kragens. The one in Ventura doesn't have it, but in Santa Barbara they do

As I recall Maxlife Syn is more robust in all ways, better NOACK, thicker, has moly. The Synpower 5w40 and 20w50 are fine though and meet ACEA A3. In fact, the 20w50 MSDS shows mostly PAO.

TallPall, does the 9/12/07 sheet still list the OEM approvals/recommendations? If so, is the VW502 spec and BMW specs still on it? Thanks

ok retard time bc i cant remember ----... what is the difference in GF-4 and A3? i keep getting wishy washy info on it.

i bought 24 qts of synpower on BOGO at advance. i should have gotten some 20-50 too to thicken my 5w and 10w30's... i dont run but 5k mile oci's so i am not too worried with this yota motor..

I only see API SM/SL/CF and ACEA A3. You might give them a call at 800 TEAMVAL to see if there is more to it.
