Valvoline Maxlife/Durablend

Well, an interesting reply came to my question to Valvoline Maxlife asking them if Maxlife was just Durablend with seal conditioners and they stated that it was true. Here is the reply I got, "Basically MaxLife is Durablend with extra additives to help with older engines, referring to seal re-conditioners and an extra detergent package." I thought this was interesting and wanted others to know.

I don't know how to describe this statement other than just plain dumb...

Not intended as criticism of Coffee's post, but if these are the exact words of the Valvoline sales tech's, they gotta be smoking MJ with our friend 06 Vtech!

Per the Walmart & WPP MSDS data base:

5w30 Maxlife - Grp 1+ and PAO

5w30 Durablend - Grp III and Grp 1+

My comments are different base oils & different add packs do not equal "the same".

.. or Ashland changed the composition since the last time Walmart & WPP MSDS data base changed their webpage.

Who knows which is correct?.... but I trust the very current words of Ashland versus a webpage that may be old news.

C'mon Triple777, the MSD files are up to date unless the formulations have changed during the last month.

And Durablend is labeled as a syn-blend. Does anyone suspect that regular Maxlife has Grp III content?

To expand on the tech's lack of knowledge, they showed how little they know when I called them a few days ago about mixing two different oil weights. They said that if I mixed 50/50, 10W30 with 10W40, I'd still end up with 10W40. No lie, that's what I got for an answer! I understood "his" answer clearly. Crazy. I posted on this here a few days ago.

Maxlife is most likely All Climate with PAO, seal conditioners, and moly.

Maxlife synthetic would likely be the same deal based on Synpower.

Well, I am confused then as I am very impressed with Durablend but because my vehicles are high mileage I get advised on Valvoline's site to use Maxlife. I still think Durablend is the better oil but does anyone have an opinion between the two oils? Thank you.

I would rather have the PAO content that MaxLife has.

I prefer Maxlife to Durablend, but Durablend does seem to be a pretty good oil.

I've ran both, but only did a used oil analysis on the Maxlife.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I will probably stick with Maxlife for next OCI then.
